Antiriad
Hi yesterday I bought another Atari Jr. packed with two joysticks and some games from a guy in the neighborhood. Besides Defender II and Phoenix, there is also this "strange" version of Donkey Kong: The game plays normally (I don't have an original Donkey Kong, I can compare it only with Youtube) so I'm aware it's nothing special, just a bootleg cartridge with generic label and name print on it, but I wanted to share it with you anyway (it's not listed on AtariGuide). Since I must place an order in the store, maybe it is possible to relabel it? I'm not interested to make it look like an original cart, but I'd simply like a nicer artwork and a label in better conditions. What do you think? Could you suggest me some artworks? Thanks Edited August 30, 2014 by Antiriad
+Random Terrain
. . . it's not listed on AtariGuide). It's listed here, though: atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-donkey-kong_7802.html Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page and look at the images. Here is a semi-related post: atariage.com/forums/topic/123950-is-this-a-cooper/?p=1497660 Yes, the Pitfall cart shown is a "Taiwan Cooper Black" pirate, so named for the only easily-described info available to group them together as by the same maker (Taiwan is in raised letters on the back of the case, and Cooper Black is the font used for the game name). Video
In the 90's Atari apparently thought there was no interest in atari games, but you could still order them from other countries (or at least, local stores could) I saw a LOT of those types of cartridges back then. I got a few too, it's just bootlegged (or maybe official) but foreign cacts.
mbd30
The artwork looks more like "Mr. Do's Castle".
Antiriad
Thank you for the infos. Really, I think this version is a bit "bugged". If I die on the second stage, the game freezes and it needs a reset. And DK is a bit green on the top!
freewheel
Don't relabel it! Those pirate carts have a collector's market all their own. What you've got may not be worth a *lot*, but it's certainly worth more than a generic common DK cart. Put it to you this way - if you want to trade for a real DK, I'll more than gladly do it with you And yeah, some of the pirates have really strange glitches and bugs. Not sure if it was copying errors or just cheaper quality chips inside. Edited September 3, 2014 by freeweed
Antiriad
Hi and thank you for the comments. Yes, I'd like to trade it with a loose official DK cart (in good conditions) but I live in Italy so my VCS it's PAL... Do you have a PAL official DK cart to trade? Thanks
nofrills100
To be honest neither versions are worth the postage, unless the person you trade with is local. The cart you have is actually a pretty common pirate cart, but still worth keeping for the funky factor
S.BAZ
yeah the funky factor! I like it
