TXG/MNX Posted September 4, 2014 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Hi i got 10 fpu 68882-40 overher which Atari can use them ? TT040, Falcon030 and mega ste i think need to test and open them. Are there other machines that do have a socket for it? I know tt and falcom can seperate clock from cpu so higher speed fpu could be done. guus.assmann Posted September 5, 2014 Share Posted September 5, 2014 Be aware, this chip comes in more packages. The ones with the pins on the bottom, will go in some accelerators. The sockets in the Atari are for the PLCC versions, e.g. pins on the side. Mega STE expects a 68881 and the 68882 is not recognised in some programs. Lynxpro Posted September 5, 2014 Share Posted September 5, 2014 It's too bad 99.9% of the games on ST/STe/TT/Falcon do not natively support the 68881/68882. Think of all of the games for PC back then that offered support for Intel's FPUs. Sure, the PC market back then didn't have equivalent "custom" chips - for the most part - like Atari and Commodore, but FPU support would be nice.
