Mendon
I don't know whether to laugh or sigh.... it seems that the Smash Bros. demo is causing some people to break the circle pad on their 3DS & 3DS XL while playing. http://nintendoeverything.com/smash-bros-causing-home-players-3ds-circle-pads-to-be-destroyed/
Austin
I sure hope they gave the option to control the game with the standard d-pad...
omegadot
That's a scary thought.

Mendon
From what I've read, you can't map the movements to the D-pad. Maybe the final product will allow you to but from what is being said of the NA demo, no mapping. And the story on Kotaku has a lot of pictures of broken circle pads: http://kotaku.com/super-smash-bros-is-wrecking-some-peoples-3ds-handheld-1634549128 Edited September 15, 2014 by Mendon
cimerians
That's why I'm still interested in this: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/228575-3ds-xl-joystick-w-ball-grip/
DaytonaUSA
I sure hope they gave the option to control the game with the standard d-pad... Nope. No dpad control is offered...

Unbeliever
Sorry Smash Bros....perhaps you won't be added to my library quite as quickly as I wanted.
Reaperman
Nintendo's done this a fair bit in the past. I recall not playing mario kart ds online because the way I had to play to win was very hard on the d-pad (and no fun). Also there's a standing rule that mario party (especially the N64 games) will not be played in my house--not that anybody but me would play it, but they're designed to destroy controllers. famicommander
This is totally ridiculous. I have a launch 3DS and the demo, and have put at least 75 hours into it. My circle pad still works fine. It survived Mario Kart 7, it survived Mario Party, it survived Smash. People just need to take better care of their stuff, and not blame a video game for their inability to do so. (I've been into the competitive Smash scene since the competitive Smash scene was a thing; I have literally thousands of hours into Melee)
Atariboy
With the shape that system looks to be in, it was just a matter of time. Don't see how it's Nintendo's fault or the fault of this game. Heck, judging by this picture, he can't even be bothered to put a sheet on his mattress. Doubt he takes care of much of his stuff. warmachine
The fanboi's will defend nintendo to the grave. Everything nintendo does is absolutely perfect. Even in the face of glaringly obvious design and engineering flaws, "it must be user error".

famicommander
Wow... you have played 75 hours of the demo in a week??? You, sir, are a devoted SB fan! I went almost 20 hours straight when I downloaded it. Plus I spent 6+ hours straight at jury duty the other day playing it (playing with the sound off, 3D off, lowest brightness, and power saving mode gets me almost 9 hours on my double capacity Nyko battery). Been taking it to work and playing on breaks and lunch too. I'm buying both versions, day one. (I hope Captain Falcon is better than he was in Brawl, as he's always been my main)
Unbeliever
Got the download myself yesterday and everything seems find. I'm not putting too much stress on the circle pad playing...and it's surprisingly good for a portable Smash game. Plays pretty fast, controls seem tight...good game. DemonoidTentacle
I've been giving the demo a real good go, and I don't see how people are wrecking their circle pad. I'm a rough Smash Bros player, but I don't feel anywhere near close to wrecking it. It's no different to the workout it gets playing any platformers or Mario Kart. Ya my son and I tried it out today and these people breaking their controllers are just dumb. P.S. Anyone got a move list for Mario?I got a 10 year old boy who would be thankful for such a thing. TheGameCollector
Maybe this would cause Nintendo to improve the pad's durability on the New 3DS.
