CD ROM

My CD Rom Drive is at the electronics shop for repair. I'm thinking it's the PSU...

While we are on the topic, were there any games or programs published for the ST on CD rom? Or was it all aftermarket stuff made for people who made the setup work? Haven't seen a list or much first party software anywhere.

Thanks!

I still have the CDAR drive: a CD ROM drive with "x1" that was plugged into the ACSI port.

You can see it installed on a Mega STE on my page:

http://gtello.pagesperso-orange.fr/ste_e.htm

Now I have changed this, it is connected to a STE with Ultrasatan drive on the same chain.

It was a very good piece of hardware with a control panel that could be removed from the drive and be used as a remote control.

It is really strong and never required any repair.

Back in the day, I had two Pioneer 6-pack CD-ROM changers hooked up to my BBS. We

actually had 10 CD's online at one time.

Point being, Anodyne's software worked with them perfectly. I even had a script running

that let the caller activate the disc switching and pick whatever CD they wanted to look

at and download from.'

Roger Burrows software is top notch, IMHO.

Necropost, I know. I have all of those elements except for your script. If it works with BBS Express ST, I would LOVE a copy! Thanks!

Hey, almost missed this post. I'm at work right now.

As soon as I get home I'll grab that script and send

it to you.

Keep in mind, this is a script originally posted to the

BBS Express support BBS when Rich was at the

helm, way back when.

I downloaded it, modified it, and used it with my

setup.

You'll have to go through it carefully and change

variables like /paths and other things. Also, it is

3 files if I remember, cross-linked when you compile

them.

It's a fair sized job, just letting you know. :)

Part of it for me originally was the "coolness factor". Actually

having 10 CD-ROMs online for an Atari BBS was a big deal. :)

Of course, I've only got 3 now (sort of), but it's still cool.

I piled everything up into a zip file. The first script calls the

CD-ROM stuff from the main menu. There is an individual

script for each CD-ROM, because they are usually indexed

differently.

Back in the day, adding a new CD was exciting/stressful,

all at the same time. You usually had to go in and figure

out how it's menu and file structures were laid out before

you could construct your script to read it. Fun times.

Anyway, as I stated earlier, there will be a lot of work to

change things over for use on another BBS. You'll see

once you start examining the scripts. Oh, I think it's just

2 scripts for each CD that have to be linked together.

Have fun! (let me know if you need any help - I'll try).

:)
