Turbo Duo / TG-16 S-video mod

Recommended Posts

Since we don't have a forum dedicated to this series of 8/16 bit consoles I thought I would share my recent s-video mod I did on my Jpn Turbo Duo this past weekend. It came out better then I had expected and was very simple to do.

Moderators, if you feel this needs to be moved elsewhere, please feel free.

Was given the parts and new a schem to try for a new s-video mod. The results are pretty damn stunning!

Nice. Despite the vibrant colors through the RF, I'm thinking about installing the yellow/red/white A/V jacks on the back cover of the TG-16 unit and running wires to the EXP pin headers on the back of the console. The TG-16 natively outputs RGB, composite, and stereo sound through the expansion port on the back of the unit, so I feel like it's unnecessary to permanently mod the console. Also for whatever reason, I've opened mine up and the RF shielding is soldered down to the motherboard. Removing the shielding to access the motherboard would be a PITA so I'd rather not tamper with it unless I have to. Another thing to consider, many HDTVs are doing away with S-Video, so it may be worth it to use a converter to convert the RBG to Component output for NTSC TVs.

Stardust you are absolutely right! If I were to want this on an US TG-16 I would just create a custom interface cable with the connections needed off the expansion port. But that isn't an option with a Turbo Duo hence the complicated mod this required.

And no I won't share the schematic without permission from the creator. The intention is to offer the mod eventually as a kit to be purchased and assembled as you see fit. But so far I'm very happy with the colors this new mod produces.
