ataridave Posted October 6, 2014 Share Posted October 6, 2014 I'd love to own an Apple IIc, but Apple color monitors aren't cheap, and I wonder how composite out to a CRT TV looks. I haven't found any images on the internet, although I did find one website with screenshots of how bad it looks on the IIgs. But the IIc isn't as powerful. Keatah Posted October 6, 2014 Share Posted October 6, 2014 Composite out should let you read 80-column text nicely. And that's good enough for color graphics too. If you take the composite output and convert it to RF/NTSC for TV, then 80-columns won't be readable. But you'll get some nice blending & artifacting for the colors though. Bill Loguidice Posted October 6, 2014 Share Posted October 6, 2014 The Apple II series computers all output standard composite and should work fine on any classic CRT or modern flat screen with composite input without issue. I know I use them without issue on a wide range of displays. As you state, the only Apple II computer with issues is a IIGS, but only in IIGS mode, since that has a special connector (you can still use the composite out for legacy II software). Charlie_ Posted October 7, 2014 Share Posted October 7, 2014 I've experienced some CRT displays don't work well with the IIc. If I remember right, the C=1702 didn't look good. Also these Hitachi TV/Monitors I have. The text is unclear it just looks like very strong artifacting and you can only read it by turning the color knobs to almost no color.
