Hi shamus

some feedback:

i like the "frame advance" button together with the alpine mode

but it would be even more nicer when that button press event would trigger the refresh of the apline status windows.. for example the CPU Broser or OP Browser

that could speedup "basic" debuging a lot

another fedback: awesome job.. i love the VJ :) :)

greetings

Just downloaded this for the first time tonight. It seems to works really well with some games (downfall, rayman) and be in slow motion for others (tempest, missile command 3d). Any way to optimize performance?

Also, how do you create a cart to insert? There didn't seem to be any inputs available once I opened that screen.. The way I got the system to work was by just opening the roms and using VJ as the APP of choice.

I also noticed the keypad selection could be a bit off. For example I selected W and S as my Up and Down on the D pad, but many games would re-assign them to S and X. Random. I wonder if a Jag pad to USB adapter would be a better option (anyone know where to find one of these?)

Running this setup on a Windows 10 Dell with 1.90Ghz processor, 4gb RAM and a 64 bit operating system. Would beefing up the RAM help?

Might have better luck using the latest version from this page. Several people, including myself have had problems getting custom keys to stick with 2.1.2.

Another option that I've had the best results with is using version 2.1.0. 210's custom keys stick for me without fail (I'm using the Linux version though)

On a side note, I've noticed that while having multiple versions on one computer, the earliest version's settings will default the later ones to its configuration-whether any of the others have been customized or not.

Hope that helps :)

Edit:

To load carts/games via the Insert Cartridge... screen, on the General tab of VJ's Settings, paste the path to your rom folder, click OK, then shut down and restart VJ. Downfall should have been visible in the list of carts to choose from upon opening VJ. If no carts are in the list to the left of that screen, the path didn't default to the "software" folder that installs with VJ. If you can locate it and paste its path into the above you should be golden.

Thanks man, you rock, this worked great! Pretty cool to see my whole library as virtual cartridges.

Also enabled some of the performance features so looking forward to seeing if that helps with some of the slowdown I was experiencing, BIOS, GPU, DSP, Fast Blitter, etc..

I have found the keyboard to be less than ideal for controlling most jaguar games, except some of the home-brews which have simple control schemes.

Anyone try one of these out yet?

Any better alternative to this out there (ie. cheaper or more functional?)

That's the only Jag controller connector on the market (that I know of.) I bought 4 of them directly from Raphnet's site back then. Looks more expensive in this auction. Shipping too, but I don't remember the details of the purchase. I've used a PS2 controller in the past. Minus all the number keys it works great :)

From the built-in documentation (Help | Contents):

Use fast blitter

Checking this option will force Virtual Jaguar to use the older, less compatible yet faster blitter. Some games will not work properly with this option checked!

There is no on-screen FPS counter as of yet. Never heard of Shadowplay.

Thanks again. I actually tried Help but for some reason couldn't find that entry. Mea culpa. :dunce:

Shadowplay is an nvidia-only video capture tool. Apparently it's pretty light on the resources and easy to use. It's possible I'm just not using it correctly as I'm very new to recording video. It does have its own FPS counter as well.

Got a new PC. Gigabyte motherboard with AMD A8-6600K Quad core processor and AMD Radeon R7 200 Graphics card. Running Windows 8.1.

Running Virtual Jaguar works for about 30 seconds and goes to a white screen. I found a similar thread on SDLemu forum which suggested it may be an OpenGL issue.

I have installed the latest AMD graphics driver. I have virtual jaguar running fine on my 2GHz windows 7 laptop but is slow.

I have started with raptor basic and dearly want vj working on the new PC for speed reasons and development with raptorBASIC+.

A lot of trouble with VJ since few month since a Windows 7 update

> VJ works fine in rom mode but crash in Alpine mode

Hi.

Do you launch the alpine mode directly without a rom / binary? In this case, the debugger will launch whatever the pc position / code it found, so it will result mostly on a crash. I have discovered this when studying the emulator code to add some stuff.

Screenshoting windows does indeed work but is only comfortable if you only want 'one' screenshot and not for a large number... I tried a snipping tool and it indeed works... but you have to install extra software that you don't need with most other emulators... also it only works with the stuff that runs in the emulator.... a lot of the stuff I tried to screenshot did not run... so an update would be nice ;)
