bfollett
Hi, can you add .altstate to the list of allowable files types you can attach to a post? They are the Save State files Altirra creates. Thanks, Bob
Thomas Jentzsch
Why don't you just zip them before posting?
bfollett
Why don't you just zip them before posting? Zipping is just an unnecessary step. Plus the headers on zip files are huge compared to the relatively small size of most 8 bit files, so a zip file is actually much larger than the original file. Lastly, there are a fair number of forum members who dislike commercial programs like zip. Bob
Thomas Jentzsch
There are thousands and thousands of file formats and Al would be quite busy to add them all. Zip offers a universal alternative. The "huge" header size is about 110 bytes. And it is not a commercial program, it is a format, using free algorithms, supported by thousands of free and commercial programs.
Rhomaios
7-zip is free, mutli-platform (including for Amiga!), and has better compression. I can understand though if Al doesn't want that type to be uploaded.

He doesn't have to support 1000's of file formats, just those that relate our beloved vintage computers. As to the number of bytes added by zip, that all depends on what program you use to create the zip, and you still don't address the people who don't have a unzip program installed, and may not want one. Albert has in the past, and without complaint, added file formats supported by the emulators, so I'm not sure why you are making so much of a simple request. Thomas Jentzsch
Al has added only the most frequently used formats for convenience reasons. For all other formats, you have zip. Which has been good enough for numerous people on AtariAge for years now.
bfollett
I think he may allow file types than you realize. Read about the first 8 posts in this recent TI/994A thread. He seemed quite willing to add file extensions. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/226182-atariage-improvements/ Bob
