So they sell the house and split the profit; well some of that money goes back to the lawyer brokering the deal, directly or indirectly. As an attorney (licensed for 21+ years), I think I know a little more than most about how fees work. The reality is, people going into a contested divorce are presented with a bill for a retainer (might be as low as $500, might be several tens of thousand dollars, depending on what's at stake, how much property has to be divided, whether and how many kids are involved and how old they are ...) and an hourly rate. The hourly rate will vary WIDELY based on the region - small town folks in rural areas charge a lot less than lawyers in major metro areas, and that's just due to the cost of living. That retainer is held in escrow and the hourly rate bill is drawn against it until it is depleted. Itemized bills are generated monthly, and will typically detail everything done on a client's case - from taking phone calls, to reviewing and drafting correspondence, to court appearances. So, bills are generated and expected to be paid as the case progresses. Smart lawyers stop working when their bills go unpaid because, frankly, "Trust me, I'll pay you next week!" is bullshit 7 times out of 10. You know, lawyers catch enough shit as it is without misinformation being passed around as gospel truth. The reality is, kids these days are graduating with well over $100K in student loan debt from college and law school (a minimum of 7 years post-high school education). They spend hundreds to thousands EVERY YEAR on licensing fees, continuing education fees, and malpractice insurance. Domestic relations lawyers have the whiniest, neediest, most pain-in-the-ass clients, and the cases are never truly "done" until the last child turns 18. So if you begrudge paying for qualified help, go to your county court clerk's office, get some forms and go for it pro se. All I'll say to that is, "Good luck." Next time a tree falls on your house and smashes your roof, don't pay for the tree surgeon to cut the tree and hall off the wood; don't pay for the framers, drywallers, electricians, plumbers and roofers to fix it either. Next time sewer drain clogs out near the street and you've got brown water in your tubs and showers, don't call that plumber either. Wreck your car? Same with the siblings of the spouse truly being toxic under the surface. See the 7800 as my profile pic? Yeah, that happened because my "hobby" is a waste of money. As judged by a pet freak who treats animals better than people and who's gotta catch 'em all. Still stuck with 2 cats. If I had my druthers, the only cats in this house will be my Lynx and Jaguar. Now, back to SD Carts. Love my AtariMax on my 5200 and SainT's card for my Lynx. Me thinks it'll be SainT that delivers the working magic SD Cart for the 7800. Probably this time next year since he's about done with his Jaguar SD Cart now. A hypothetical 7800 SD Cart doesn't have to run CD images like the Jag SD Cart is expected to do, unless one is crazy enough to make ISOs out of the LaserDisc titles that weren't released for the 7800. Oh, I forgot...gotta spend time making sure it plays 2600 games. My attitude is buy a 2600 SD Adapter if you want to play 2600 games. That might simplify things. And why on earth did Atari Corp put a timing circuit on later 7800s just so it would be compatible with 2600 Dark Chambers? Every 7800 homebew or commercial bitd 7800 game works on it. Yes there are a handful of 2600 games that don't work on my Atari, including Actvision Robot Tank and AtariAge Reigndeer rescue.
