0078265317
I have sears telelgames 2600. It works fine but sometimes comes in black and white and or a little fuzzy. Not sure what is wrong. Its not the switch because its in color mode not black and white. But otherwise it works fine. Except I found some controllers at savers a few days ago. http://mvvg.blogspot.com/2014/10/2-controllers.html Not sure how rare the silver gamecube ones are as I mostly see purple. But anyhow the other one had no markings except for model number in the photo with the price tag. Not sure what system it originally was for. Does anyone remember what that was for? Anyhow it works in my sears telegames also surprisingly. It has 9 pins. So it works. And even works in my 5200 with the adapter I got fron low_rider. But for some reason it only goes up and down and right. It doesn't go left. Is that because its defective? Or the wiring is not compatible with 2600? I finally got the screws out and it all looks in tact. No wires broken. I cleaned the contacts with an eraser and everything works. All three buttons. I can't verify the start button cuz that does nothing. But the the 3 buttons work. And the direction pad works great. It only refuses to go left. Not sure why. And I threw the receipt by mistake so too late.

BigO
Any idea what's wrong? I'm not entirely sure what you're asking about as you mention a couple of different problems and meander through several topics in your original post. I'm going to guess you mean the controller not going left since I might have some valid input for you on that one. It could, in theory be a problem with the controller which looks like a third party controller for a Genesis. Genesis controllers will work in a 2600. It could be a bad input line on the multiplexer chip. It could be a broken wire inside the insulated wires in the cable. It could be a defect in the contacts of the left button (though you probably would have spotted that with a visual inspection) It's weird that all 3 buttons work. The way a Genesis controller behaves when connected to a 2600, only the B button should do anything. The fact that all three (A,B,C) buttons do something tells me that I don't understand enough about that controller to really be of any help to you. Or, it could be a problem with the console itself. You didn't say if the console worked properly with a different controller.
karokoenig
That's a Genesis/Mega Drive controller alright. You technical guys: can the buttons be wired so that they act like they should on a Genesis and be daisychained together to all work as Atari button at the same time? If yes, would make sense to me to sell the controller that way for maximum comfort.
0078265317
I'm sorry I made a mistake. The bottom button does nothing. The middle one works in space invaders 2600. It fires. The other 2 do nothing. And in 5200 jungle hunt the middle button and one on top close to the shoulders and top of the controller where the cord sticks out let me jump vines and bottom button does nothing. I took a video and will post tomorrow after it finishes uploading.
0078265317
Ok here you go. http://youtu.be/HZL2oeOqB04 http://youtu.be/lgNFi_GmpXw One for 2600 and I accidently turned off my phone. So I picked up where I left off so one for 5200.
0078265317
Found a genesis pad 3 button for 7 bucks today at goodwill. Before you complain the cheapest on ebay was 5 and 5 shipping. So almost the same thing. http://mvvg.blogspot.com/2014/11/genipad.html Anyhow it works on 2600. Space invaders go left and right. And barnstorming and space invaders fires with middle button. Top and bottom button do nothing. Only middle button works. But at least it works. So much better. The cx 40 is not good as I'm left handed and even as a kid at a friends house it was hard not having the fire button on the right also. Anyhow so that quickshot is the problem not my Atari controller port. Or may its not broken just not compatible with 2600 (different wiring). Also I picked up a pc propad 4 at goodwill also for 3 bucks. Looks sweet. Looks very similar to the snes gamepad. Shoulder buttons and 4 buttons plus dpad. But no select and start but for emulation it not a big deal. The speed buttons in the middle with work for that. Wish it worked on my 5200 as its the same 15 pin. But its probably not 500k like the 5200. Edited November 5, 2014 by 0078265317
0078265317
I finally got 1 5200 controller working and the other has dead pots. I verified by opening it up and sliding the pots left and right and up and down and no movement. The start pause and reset don't work either. So basically junk but I'm keeping it anyway just incase. But I hooked up the genipad I got from goodwill to my 5200 with my masterplay adapter . So much better. Pacman, jungle hunt, frogger, and pole position so much better with my geni pad. Its how it should of been from the beginning. Even back in the days 80 something (I forget exactly when) the stocks were junk. Pacman would always go the direction I never asked for. So frustrating yelling at my mom cuz we got a broken Atari or they never got it right from the beginning. What were they thinking. The genipad so much better. BigO
It's possible that the pots are damaged, but it seems unlikely to me that they'd both be completely dead. Unless maybe somebody took them apart to clean them and messed them up in the process. I'd as quickly suspect broken wires. You can determine for sure whether the pots are bad with the cheapest of cheap < $10 multimeters.
