Manoau2002
I thought it might be fun to start a topic about different things people have learned since they became members at atariage. As a child I remember using Apple 2 and Commodore 64's in school. I owned a Vic-20 and a Tandy computer growing up. A few years ago when I got really into emulation (with the wii) I learned about spectrum and msx computers. But somehow I managed to overlook/never learn that Atari was in the computer business. (Yes I knew they manufactured game consoles)
+save2600
The beauty of Atari Age is that there's a potpourri of never-ending learning processes going on! Always something new/old/ongoing to be discovered. On a slight tangent, amazes me at how many home-brews get by that I never heard of, that'll suddenly pop up and beg for purchasing! lol
dashv
I learned about this magical thing called a Harmony cart (but I still don't have one). I also learned there is a very active Atari homebrew scene and about Batari basic.
Rhomaios
I also learned there is a very active Atari homebrew scene and about Batari basic. That was my biggest surprise as well, but I've learned tons of new things. I couldn't even begin to enumerate. I also learned how awesome this place is, does that count? Rex Dart
I had no idea about the Jaguar people...
Mxyzptlk
I learned that my 2600 collection wasn't ANYWHERE near as complete as I thought it was. The only reason I even came here was because someone mentioned A.A. in their Epay listing. I am glad they did and now I have dozens more titles that I never even knew existed.
toptenmaterial
I learned that the Atari 7800 wasn't shelved deliberately then brought back to fight Nintendo, but rather was paralyzed over legal wrangling.

Andromeda Stardust
I learned that pre-NES consoles are actually fun to play. Also most Atari collectors don't go ape-sh** over collecting sealed games. Just look at how Nintendo prices have spiraled out of control. I have more posts on AtariAge than NintendoAge. +Charlie Cat
Hi guys, I learned that Atariage is so much better than most of the video game forums! I didn't realized that the homebrew scene ever existed until I came on this site! Plus the members are courteous and friendly! The members (like myself) often give a helping hand to others if they are in need of assistance. Buying/selling on the market place is also a strong point where prices from sellers are reasonable than the outrageous prices I've seen on Ebay! Anthony... 82-T/A
There's something going on with the Atari Jaguar and a handful of people that are mad about Battle Sphere, and some other games... like lightbulb or lights out or something? I dunno, a bunch of people are really upset on the Jaguar side, and even though I have been registered long during and before... I somehow missed all the drama during the time I was getting a degree and helping to make kids. Kind-a wish I had been "present" during that time. It's almost like someone slept through the American civil war and woke up and was like... huh?
bennybingo
Shatner, Backin89, Hello Kitty, HardWork, Team Savage…and the list goes on and on….
Omega-TI
I learned there that there are a lot of good people hanging out in the subscriber section, that and I always go to that 'one place' to look for cool .GIF's first!
Torr
TOO much to list! I found this site back in 1999/2000 so I list some highlights: 1.) That there were WAY more games made than I ever expected B.) That games were (and are) still being made by hobbyists III.) Just exactly WHAT the 5200 and 7800 system were. Had heard only heard about them in passing. And most importantly... *drum roll* To get a VCS game based on that CLASSIC show Knight Rider, all it takes is "HardWork"

atarilovesyou
The biggest thing I learned after joining Atariage is how awesome it and this community is. I can't say I've been to all the other sites, but whenever I do poke around, I always compare it to this place. People tend to stick around at AA, and that's awesome. If I ever had a problem, it gets resolved quickly. I can ask a question about damn near anything and someone here will know enough to either answer it outright or point me in the right direction. Sorry for the bromance, fellows, but AA is great.

OldSchoolRetroGamer
I learned that people who shit talk and dump on atariage elsewhere are 99% of the time people that have been banned for trolling or scamming on atariage in the past lol.
BigO
Programming for the 2600 is a fairly unique experience among classic (or any) game consoles.
+GoldenWheels
I learned a ton about the real history of Atari circa the crash, specifically the 7800. I learned about, er, the mechanics of the economy of homebrew games. I learned (as this was the first company/system dedicated site I've joined) that an immense amount of neat new games and accessories are out there for systems both obscure and well known. Honestly, I had no idea the homebrew and custom craftsman support some of these systems have. Now I've got a Radica 7800 stick and the PMP multicart and a homebrew from the Atariage store and.... Hmmm. Well, one thing I just learned on atariage is that people dump on it elsewhere. I find that pretty odd--how much better do they expect the forum to be? Jag fans? Shinju
That there is no such thing as a complete Atari 2600 collection as new games are still being found! /wink.
