I've been trying to warm up to Twitter, but I'm just not getting much of any of the latest and greatest classic gaming news. Maybe I'm not following the right people. Any recommendations on who to follow?

I haven't found any Facebook groups that concentrate strictly on pre-crash classic gaming. I dropped out of a lot of groups because there were too many posts on consoles I didn't care about. If anyone knows of Facebook groups that focus on pre-crash gaming please recommend.

For me AtariAge is THE place for the latest classic gaming news. AtariAge is lean on classic arcade gaming content, however, and wish it were better. I'm also a member of ClassicArcadeGaming.com but that site primarily revolves around players announcing new high scores on arcade games and it's been in decline for the last couple of years with a lot of active members leaving the site.

I actually would love to post considerably more news to the front page of AtariAge, but it's difficult to go at it alone. I'm considering offering free forum subscriptions to those who help submit news in a form that I can use with minimal editing. I'd love to have several items a day posted to the front page, or at least something new every day. For instance, Stella 4.2 was released yesterday, so I'd like to get that up there, as well as posted to Twitter and Facebook. It even helps when people point me to classic gaming-related news, as knowing is half the battle. ;)

I may create a Classic Gaming News forum where people can post stories and I can pick and choose what I put on the front page. If I can use your story with minimal work on my end, I'll extend your forum sub by a month.

There are two Facebook pages for AtariAge, one is the official Facebook page and the other is a discussion group:

https://www.facebook.com/AtariAge

https://www.facebook.com/groups/atariage/

and Twitter:

https://twitter.com/atariage

Like with the front page, I'd like to be more active in posting items to the above pages. It's much easier to post stuff to Facebook and Twitter, and and even items that don't make it to the front page can still be posted to these locations.

The AtariAge discussion group on Facebook seems redundant since you already have the forums here and there is much more participation in the forums.

Rarely do I ever go to the AtariAge home page. I always head straight to the forums because that's where all the latest news and discussions are happening.

Agreed, for those who regularly visit the forum, there's no need to visit the Facebook group, as there's considerably more activity on the forum than there is on Facebook. However, some people prefer Facebook to forums, or they simply aren't aware of the forums. So it's useful to have the Facebook and Twitter pages.

The front page does receive a considerable amount of traffic, so I would like to have it updated more frequently than it currently is.

For classic gaming news I just come here but Twitter is my other main source. I also check various sites throughout the day.

Actually I may be able to help Albert\Atariage since I tend to post various news items on the forums (usually deals or re-releases and remakes).

If there is a dedicated news forum I can submit stuff there instead of different places. I tend to put everything in there like links but if its a dedicated news forum I'll put more info in the post than I normally do so there's little if any moderating needed.

Sometimes I'm disappointed that I dont see a news item at Atariage....it's like.....I should have read it there first!!! ;)

I can create a dedicated News forum. Other sites I visit have a similar setup, such as the MacRumors Forums. It can create some fragmentation since news about a wide variety of subjects is discussed in that forum instead of the subject-specific forums, but it seems to work out okay. I'd probably create a "User Submitted News" sub-forum, and then use the main news forum for anything that's posted to the front page. I'd probably move this and some other forums (such as "Web Site Comments") to the top. And also shorten or eliminate most of the forum descriptions to make everything a bit vertically tighter.

I don't know if that sounds good. You already have forums for peeps like Opcode and CollectorVision which they use for announcements and then there's the Events forum for people to post news items regarding expos. I like how you have the forums organized now where discussions are predominantly sorted per platform whether it's news or not. With a News forum everyone will be posting news about anything and everything and then I'll be seeing topics in my feed that would otherwise be filtered out because there are certain platforms I don't care to follow.

What I really think you need is someone to volunteer to keep the page updated and be active in Tweeting out news.

I hear what you're saying, and I tend to agree. It is possible to create post news in the main "News" forum, then immediately move it to the relevant forum while keeping a ghost link inside the News forum to the topic's new location. This is already built into the forum. Thus, any actual discussion would take place in the relevant forum (as now), but you'd still have a list of all the bigger news items that were posted on the front page of the site, making it easy for someone to see the latest news.

Certainly this, regardless of what happens with forum organization of news!!

Why, Atariage of course. It's the largest repository of video game related knowledgeable people I've ever been on on the web.

For casueal stuff I might use other places (facebook)but for the meat, I come to AA.

[Edit - I should say AA forum, to be exact. I like the interactive nature of it. It's clean and efficient, unlike that facebook fubar crap.
