0078265317
I know we have discussed av mode before but my 2600 is very grainy. Assuming I don't feel like doing it myself (not good with soldering). If I ever decide to get it. I found three of these on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-2600-Woodgrain-Console-Only-NTSC-AV-Mod-162-/151454570538?pt=Video_Games&hash=item234365582a Is that too nuch for the unit with red, white, and yellow on the back. And no svideo even. Or is that reasonable considering all it took to make that. I know I don't need 2 ataris but I could then sell the other one if this is worth it. forrestsmith
Hi Having done both mods I dont think the AV mod is worth it, the picture is slightly better. You may get the same results using a better RF cable. The S video mod is a complety different story, night and day difference in picture and sound. If buying one I would get one with the S video. christo930
Apparently this one has been upgraded to 128KB! With no interference now that NTSC no longer is broadcasted anywhere in the US, you should be able to get a decent RF signal. Also, the Atari 2600 JR has a better signal and is much easier to mod for S-video as well.
spawnshop
Hey guys, i got an AV Mod from vintagegamingandmore.com and got it together last night (well, just the board anyway,) and I do notice a difference. The picture is a bit sharper (but not a ton), and the sound is MUCH better. Here is a side by side of the 2 screens (sorry, taken with my phone, but you get the idea). You can definitely see how the AV on the left is more crisp than the RF on the right. it's not a huge difference in image, but I'm glad i did the mod. I'm really digging the better sound. I do have a question though.... I read on one of the sales install sheets (from one seller, not sure which one at the moment), but he said that removing L201 component from the board would improve video quality. Has anyone done this or would you recommend it? (I've noted the part in the schematic below). Edited September 6, 2015 by spawnshop
