Anyone have any amazing Jag finds in the wild?

I'd imagine its a regular problem that people who have any jag stuff think it's super rare and valuable..

I found my original jaguar and jag CD in the wild here at a play and trade in vermont, and my second boxed jaguar and some games new in box on craigslist. The craigslist find was the best, everything in mint shape boxes with the Babbages price tags still on them, I got a deal on the stuff too as I bartered the owner down a bit in price!!

A local books & movies store had a few Jag carts in the last couple of months. I picked up a loose Zool 2 for about ten bucks. They also had Dragon but wanted $15 for it, and Bubsy, and wanted something like $20. Yeah, not really worth it, but it was still interesting to actually see Jag games in the wild. Not something I see very often.

Years ago on this forum, somebody, and I can't remember who, claimed to have found a loose copy of Hyper Force at a pawn shop. Of all the carts you could find in the wild, I thought that was so strange.

I'd believe it. I once found an AtariAge produced 2600 repro cart out in the wild. Thought it was the strangest thing, considering the market for those is so small.

I really wish I hadn't sold my collection 10 years ago. Battlesphere, Breakout 2K, Skyhammer, Pro Controller, and almost every CD game... stupid me. Maybe someone will find it at a garage sale someday. I think I sold it all for less than the cost of what Battlesphere goes for alone now.

Meh, don't kick yourself too much. I have gone through times where I traded things I was not using for other current hobbies, or sold things to make space. Most things I have sold and not regretted, but every now and then I new use for something for something I might have sold comes up. :D

For a time I used to check pawn shops, garage sales, and thrift stores and found a pawn shop in alaska that had a Jaguar and some games (condition was terrible, prices were way too high, IIRC one of the games was melted out of shape). Haven't had too many decent finds in the wild, one good one was a CDi at a used electronic shop for like $20.

It had to be about 12-15 years ago, when I would regularly go to swap meets (flea markets) looking for classic computers and video games. I saw a lonely sealed Jaguar Primal Rage. The guy had a bunch of games for other systems, but only the one Jag game. So, I downplayed it, saying I wondered if I could find my old Jaguar in the basement, and if it would even still work. He wanted to get rid of the odd ball game, so offered it for $2.00. It was a good day.

The last time I found Atari Jaguar stuff in the wild, it was in 1997 when KB Toys was liquidating their inventory. New boxed systems $25 each, cartridge games, $5.00, CD games, $7.50. I bought one of everything, and a couple of systems.

Since then, I really haven't seen squat. Jaguar stuff has been more rare than 3DO or anything else that I've seen.

The only place I've seen Jag stuff in the wild is a local retro game shop, they sell everything from Astrocade games to PC-Engine, but even they have a small selection of Jag stuff. I think the last time I went the only Jag game was a beat up copy of Flip Out.

I have not seen a single, solitary piece of Jaguar hardware or software in the wild since moving to Australia 7 years ago. It's like it never existed here.

Stuff for the Lynx does, however, turn up now and again.

I did find a Jaguar, controller and Tempest 2000 in a shop in Birmingham (UK) before I left tho (and bought them).

I used to see some from a vendor at a once a year flea market. They had them there for a couple years. I saw a boxed Jag at a game store, they were not sure if it even worked, they had no carts.. That was all before I started getting into the Jag, now I cant seem to find anything except a couple high priced items at specialized videogame shows. They are completely buried by the "popular" sys games, but still priced high.

The story of how I came to get my Jaguar is pretty cool. I am a bit younger than the average Jaguar player as I grew up on the Nintendo 64. My neighborhood used to have a store called DVD Stop where I would go to get all my video games. One day I was browsing through some of their Super Nintendo games when I happened to notice a strange looking machine in the glass case near the front of the store. I inquired about it and the guy behind the counter told me that I was looking at an Atari Jaguar with the Jaguar CD add on, the world's first 64 bit gaming console. I was very intrigued by the notion that a 64 bit console could have existed before the Nintendo 64 so I asked to see some games. He pulled out a copy of Iron Soldier and I could tell just by reading the back of the box that this was something I was going to love. I bought it right then and there along with the Jaguar and Jag CD and a cd copy of Iron Soldier 2 and the man behind the counter told me to take good care of it. Apparently it was his Jaguar and he still had a fairly large library of games for it that he wasn't sure he was ready to let go of yet. The next time I came into the store he had his entire library of games waiting for me. He sold me his entire library for 150 bucks and told me that the cool thing about the Jaguar is that people still make games for it! On that day I got Rayman, Club Drive, Flip Out, Zool 2, Battlemorph, Blue Lightning, Vid Grid, Tempest 2000, Checkered Flag, A Myst demo, Bubsy, and the Tempest 2000 soundtrack all in their original boxes. I took all this home and booted up my Jaguar and...I'm still a fan today! Unfortunately, that store has since closed and for a long time that guy was actually my only source of Jaguar info lol. The only other Jaguar things I've seen in the wild were my boxed copy of Zero 5 that I found in Japan of all places and occasionally I see a Jaguar console on sale at one of my other local stores called Game Force.

I stumbled across this thread when a google search brought me to these forums, and I had to join to share my story.

I was on my way to buy a Wii U off of Craigslist and I needed to get money out of the ATM, so I take a different route than usual. I see a guy set up on the side of the road with a card table and some boxes on top of it. I think "man, how great would it be if he was selling video games?"

As I approach his table, I see them: two complete in box Jaguars. I damn near drove off the road. I mean, it's one thing to see games for sale, but a Jaguar that's complete no less? What are the odds?

I walk over and check out his stuff. Sure enough, two CIB jaguars but...also 8 CIB games:

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story

Val d'Isère Skiing and Snowboarding

Kasumi Ninja

Iron Soldier

Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy

Wolfenstein 3D

Tempest 2000

Alien v. Predator

The guy tells me "This one also comes with a game that doesn't have a box," which was Cybermorph, and "you can choose any four boxed games if you buy one of the systems."

So I'm thinking great, I can get AVP and Tempest 2000 and two other games, but oh wait, what does this cost?

"$50."

And that crazy random happenstance is how I wound up owning a CIB Jaguar, AVP, Tempest 2000, Wolfenstein 3D, and Trevor McFur all CIB, and Cybermorph, all for $50.

As for the other four games and the other CIB Jaguar? My buddy went and bought all that for $50 on his way back from Goodwill after scoring a CIB Turbografx for $10.

To this day, we consider it the best day in our collecting history.

Both these stories are really cool and beautiful, very nice to hear.

I don't have a similar story and it is not quite so much in the wild but I thought it was neat nonetheless.

We used to have an Atari Dealer in the city I live in and when I was smaller I went there quite often because I really did like to look at his stuff and talk to the owner and then when the Jaguar arrived it was the first place I ever got my hands on it so that was cool too. But as things went he had to close shop and dissapeared.

A few years later I was near the old shop so I decided to look and see what was in there now.

To my amazement the Atari sign was still mounted above the door and I spontaniusly rang the bell.

A very old man opened the door and was pretty surprised, but when I started to tell him about why I rang he knew what I was talking about. He told me about the old shopowner and his problems and invited me in.

In a backroom of the shop where still some Atari related things that where left to be sold to cover some cost in case someonew would buy it. Most of it was not interesting (or so I thought at the time), some magazines, some floppy drives and lot's of cables but I found a copy of raiden complete in box which he sold me for ten german mark. I also asked him about the Atari sign and he wrote down my number for the day it should get removed but unfortunatly he never called me...an last time I passed by there, the sign was no more...

Still it was a very surprising encounter and that's how I found my copy of Raiden "in the wild". ;-)

Never encountered a Jag 'in the wild' here in Austria. I bought mine at an Atari fair in Germany and can't remember any shop carrying it. The few thrift stores we have here don't seem to carry video games at all. Don't think I saw a Jag game at last year's retro game exchange but will look again next week. ;-)

I acquired most of my Jaguar collection back in the late 90s, when it was still pretty normal to see Jag games in stores like Electronics Boutique and K.B. Toyworks. So now I don't usually buy Jag stuff when I do see it in stores.

But I actively search for retro gaming stores when I travel, so I do still find quite a few stores with Jag stuff. There's one in my town that currently has a sealed Alien Vs. Predator, although he's asking $120 for it. He's also got used copies of Val d'Isere, Checkered Flag and Battlemorph. If anyone is looking in the Chicago area, there's a few stores there that carry Jag stuff. People Play Games always has a few, and Videogames Then and Now does too.

Videogames Then and Now also has a nice wall of sealed Lynx games. I know it's not really on topic, but it's close. Most of them are the really common ones, but it was still pretty cool to see this in 2014. It brought me back to my childhood:
