dphirschler
I want to replace my old battery in the Mini Memory cart with a socketed battery. Before I open my cart and measure it, can one if you tell me the dimensions of the battery socket I need? Hoping it's 20mm as I have a new battery here ready to go. +arcadeshopper
So much easier to change now: (btw this one works on the mobo too..) 2032 cell Also there's these instructions http://www.mainbyte.com/ti99/minimem/minimem.html Edited November 5, 2014 by arcadeshopper
+OLD CS1
Good question. I am really not sure. I got a handful from Mouser to do mine. You can see it in my gallery.
dphirschler
I don't want the battery external. And the mainbyte site only tells you how to solder a new one in, not a socket. Doesn't even tell you the size of the battery. This is below mainbyte's usual standard of thoroughness. Darryl
+save2600
It's a standard CR2032 type coin cell battery... and a socketed one probably doesn't fit inside the case, hence the soldered solution. Looks like they're not taking orders anymore either, but I'm sure you can get those batteries with the soldered leads at a place like Mouser or Digikey. +OLD CS1
I used these from Mouser: 571-1205911 The Mini Memory board is a lot more "friendly" than the Amiga 2000 or Amiga 4000 for 2032 sockets.
Fritz442
I used Radio Shack #270-009 holder, but you have to remove the protrusions on the bottom to make them lay flat against the board. I removed them with a dremel tool and flattened the top arm just a bit and push it down all the way. Cut the new inner slot on board. Last image with door removed. dphirschler
Just found a coin battery socket I can scavenge from an old PC motherboard. I don't know why it just now occurred to me to look for it there. I've been scavenging parts from this board for about a year. I'll let you all know how the surgery goes... dphirschler
Well, the coin battery socket (from a CMOS battery in a PC) is too small. It's 20mm. The one in the Mini Memory cart is easily 24mm or more. So I don't think this is an equivalent replacement. Darryl

It does not have to be a 24xx or 23xx, a 2032 works just fine and is abundantly available.

dphirschler
The problem is (and I should have probably noticed before I soldered it in) that there isn't enough vertical clearance for the socket. grr! OLD_CS1, does yours fit in the closed shell? I'd just like to know for sure before I order one from Mouser. Darryl

OLD_CS1, does yours fit in the closed shell? I'd just like to know for sure before I order one from Mouser. It sure does! I searched for the lowest-profile socket I could find. Tell you what: I am pretty certain I have a spare or two. I will dig through my bins tomorrow and if I have one I will ship to you Monday. Can you wait that long? +OLD CS1
I cannot find my spares in my parts bins, but they might be in storage. I was planning on heading out to storage tonight.

+OLD CS1
My two spares went out USPS Priority (apparently you cannot purchase a lesser service on-line directly) yesterday. We are all waiting to see the outcomes, fellas!
dphirschler
I've completed the surgery, but I haven't tested it yet. But it did fit back together this time. :-) Darryl
