Replacing the lights in the P-Box.

Omega-TI

Recommended Posts

I've noticed some of the lights in my P-Box are not as bright as others, and since this looks like a real simple project, I figure it's time to make everything uniform in appearance.

Now, I've also seen pictures of people that have replaced the original lights with blue LED's. (I kind of like that look.) So I'm wondering, what did you use? I'd love to just pop on to eBay and order them and get this done... while I'm waiting on other projects. Or will just any LED do?

<< THESE LOOK GOOD >> What do you think? Or is the voltage off?

I was actually just thinking a blue led for the power on my TI would be cool as it would distinguish my F18A modded system from the non-F18A :)

Well hell, they come in such large quantities, that if the P-Box and power supply use the same type, I'll just send you a few in the mail after I get them. I just need to know exactly what to order.

** EDIT ** Okay, I thought I remembered seeing that project somewhere! It was at MAINBYTE!

Now that I have the correct voltage range, I can order.

Modern "high brightness" LED's are gonna be glaring in comparison to the old-school LED's of the 80's and 90's. So if you are gonna have a mix of standard and high-brightness ones, be sure to stick a 1K or higher resistor on those high-brightness ones.

I built a card solely for the purpose of testing CRU bits once, and I put an RGB LED on there, with each color hooked to a different CRU address. I wrote a program to cycle through the CRU bits, producing a rainbow of colors from my PEB. It's too bad I didn't take any video of it! I'll have to hook it back up one of these days and re-run the program so y'all can see it. It's pretty trippy.

I ordered these about 10 minutes ago. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 1712701240621?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=171270124062&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

They look to be the same as the Spark Fun ones, except instead of paying .50 each, I'm getting them for less than .04 each.

The only draw back is the wait...

That's my 32k, I tested each card before putting back in shell so this pic was taken before I put the shell back on the 32k ;)

Don't run any TI card bare for a prolonged time, more than a few minutes. The regulators need the shells for their heatsinking ability. Personal experience.
