adamchevy
I was doing some vectrex surfing on the interweb and I came across this article: http://www.theukmortgageshop.com/uk-mortgage/a-look-at-a-vectrex-1982-video-game-console Does anyone know if the vectrex really causes permanent retina damage? Albert
"As far as we know, this is the only video games console ever released that can cause permanent retina damage even if played on a moderate brightness setting." LOL
adamchevy
I also found it strange the website was a UK mortgage site. I guess people need to get a mortgage in the UK to afford a vectrex.
fiddlepaddle
It's the same electron beam shooting out of a regular CRT TV, so if it did cause damage, millions (maybe billions) of people would have vision problems from watching TV. Although, I suppose if it was malfunctioning like many Vectrexes do, and the beam was always shooting straight out of the center, and on full brightness, it's possible the light could be bright enough to do damage if you kept staring at it...

0078265317
Too much of any thing is not good for you. There was even an article video games cause cancer especially xbox 360 and xbox one as some google links and 1 youtube video. http://www.destructoid.com/videogames-now-accused-of-giving-children-cancer-241979.phtml So too much anything is not good for you.
Nebulon
I tried a ton of search terms for vector displays and eye/retinal damage. Nothing yet. This is definitely an article that would have to substantiate its claim. Personally, I've spent so much time starting at the Vectrex and other vector display systems that I should be blind if it's really as bad as the article makes it out to be. As for the 'video games and cancer" article, well, that's more about CRTs and EMFs, as far as I can tell (which is a huge and complex topic). If people fear CRTs, they can always consider flat-panels instead.

Of course, it must be British Sarcasm.

vectrexroli
Playing the Vectrex can be dangerous, even more than the Virtual Boy! I am an 18 years old girl and look on my avatar picture how my Vectrex changed me! Edited November 29, 2014 by vectrexroli
RickR
Yes, I'm with VectrexRoli. You should box up your Vectrex's and send them all to me before your eyes are permanently ruined. I will take care of them for you.
vectrexroli
That´s no joke, back in the days they sold special protection covers like you see on the photo to keep the death ray away from the player! I think that's just click bait to con users into going that site. Giving some of the replies here, it seem to have worked.
