Rick Dangerous
So Watchdogs came out today for the Wii U. I was highly anticipating this one a while back but it took so long I sort of lost interest. Anyone pick it up yet? I think I may pick it up if the reviews are good. I like the idea of a good sandbox game on the Wii U. Thoughts?
Tempest
I'm mildly interested in this but three things are holding me back from picking it up: 1. Too many games to play as is 2. Several months too late (like you I sort of lost interest) 3. It's UbiSoft (they can burn in the hell of their own making) I also hear that they're not going to release some of the DLC for it which annoys me. UBISoft waits 6 months after the original release, doesn't release all the content that other systems get, and then claims no one buys their Wii-U games. Gee I wonder why? They're making a self fulfilling prophecy.
Austin
I'm not really interested in this type of game but I am glad it eventually came out for the Wii U. The platform could use more games like this regardless whether I will be into them or not.

It was low priority for a reason, i.e., for whatever reason Wii U owners don't support third party stuff, and that's a verifiable fact. It's a self fulfilling prophecy on the platform, so it's a first party box, period.

Then it is good that the first party games have been ten times better than the third party games we have missed out on. I buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games, anything else is a bonus. I would think if you enjoy videogames you'd want more good games rather than fewer, but that's just me.
Rick Dangerous
Realized I had a $25 off coupon in my Gamestop account (not renewing that membership lol.) I will pick up Watchdogs today and report back soon. Was also thinking of getting Bayonetta 2 but i'm not really overly exited by the amazon/librarian/feminist empowerment theme... Bill Loguidice
Was also thinking of getting Bayonetta 2 but i'm not really overly exited by the amazon/librarian/feminist empowerment theme... Yeah, it's one of those games that I can understand and agree with why it's a game of the year candidate, but for me, I've never really enjoyed that style of game all that much, and, as with you, I'm not sure I'm at the point in my life (with three daughters) where I can abide the over-the-top hyper sexualization for this type of thing (not really sure where you got the feminist angle with this, but I guess it's open to interpretation). I'll definitely consider picking it up though if it's ever cheap enough. Regardless, this is the type of game that you hope would be bought in droves by people who want to see the Wii U get more software support. There's really no excuse with this one since it's a Nintendo exclusive and no real compromises or cuts were made. Probably the biggest things keeping sales down are the aforementioned pseudo-mature nature of the thing and the somewhat niche concept. Utlimately, I think it will sell more than respectably, but it's probably the type of thing that deserves better than it will get.
Austin
but i'm not really overly exited I don't get exited much either. On a side (but somewhat related) note, I think Bayonetta 2 is excellent. I really dig the over-the-top nature of it and the fact it doesn't really take itself seriously (liked it in Devil May Cry, like it in this). Although I was thinking to myself when first playing it, sort of in line with Bill's thoughts, I said, "Man, if I had kids right now, it probably wouldn't be right to play this game." I probably would have had to pass on it--it's definitely hyper-sexualized (if that's even a term). The action and gameplay is so good though for those that like fast-paced action games that hearken back to the 3D action games of the early 2000's. Rex Dart
I hate when people say stuff like this I get only 1st party Games on the Wii U ...That's stupid I would like to see more Capcom Games like Street Fighter IV on it, But peoples Attitude towards 3rd party Software on the Wii U killing it Attitudes, or availability? I guess a combo of the two. I'd love to see SF4 on it too, but it's not available, so guess what... I buy the first party games which are. I'm not going to shell out $50 for some crap title just to "send a message" to publishers. They gotta offer somethimg worthwhile first. It goes both ways and they aren't doing their part (or else Nintendo wouldn't have had to publish Bayonetta). Companies see the Wii as a wasted effort because it's "weak". I guess Nintendo themselves are partly to blame for not putting out a convincing platform/product/"ecosystem" though.
Amstari
Don't get me wrong, when good third party games are released on the Wii U then I buy them (such as Child of Light). But the reason I have a Wii U instead of the other consoles is because the favourite games in our household are all Nintendo franchises. If these weren't great games that use up all of my available gaming time then I might be crying out for third party games. Street Fighter I would definitely be interested in, but the other games that have skipped the Wii U such as GTA, COD, FIFA, etc don't interest me personally. As for Bayonetta, it was my daughters who actually got it for me for my birthday, although I don't let them play it. Bayonetta is sexy but she isn't treated as a sex object like women are in some other games.
Rick Dangerous
Well, it's definitely fun. I'm probably not the best judge of whether one of these AAA games are good or not haha. I think the last one I played was the Uncharted series or GTA IV for PS3. They just have such a steep learning curve (for me anyway) and it's tough to learn all the buttons and interfaces when i'm more accustomed to playing VCS games, or Genesis, or on the Wii U first party IP that is really easy to pick up and play. I honestly don't have enough time to sink into these types of games these days, what with a full time job, grad school, and a pregnant partner. It always annoys me having to re-learn the controls when I come back after a week or two...but that's my problem. So long story short, it feels like GTA IV but with a little better story and the gimmick is that you hack everything somehow from your smartphone. If you are looking for an adult themed game on your Wii U it seems like a good pick. Edited November 24, 2014 by travistouchdown
Rex Dart
How does it work with the Gamepad? Does it feel like a natural extension, or shoehorned-in?
Rick Dangerous
How does it work with the Gamepad? Does it feel like a natural extension, or shoehorned-in? A little of both. It works well for plotting a GPS track but you can use a pro controller just as well. You can call up the map onscreen with the minus button on the pro controller. ALSO: My one complaint about the map is that you can't zoom far enough to see what the smaller items are in it (shops, etc.) The bigger things (next mission, hideout) are visible but there are tons of locations to visit which are distinguished by icons that are sort of hard to see.
