Is this true? CV extension cables are the same as Sega Gen?

Is it true that Sega Geneis controller, extension cables will work as a 6ft extension for out colecovision?

Yes it's true. I currently am using one and it works great.

In any case you can get one that says for Atari 2600-7800 and it will work fine.

I also have extension cords on my controllers. I don't recall if they were specific to any system when I bought them way back when, but they work fine with every system I've tried them with.

I think most extension cables are straight through. So even Commodore 64 ones would work too.

Interesting question. I got a couple of 9-pin D-sub cable extenders in a Craigslist pickup a while back. They work great for Atari 2600/7800, and fine for the ColecoVision stick and button controls. But they fail to transmit the keypad signals from the CV controllers. It's good to know that there are some other extension cables that do work properly on the CV!

Some are missing a wire or more. You can usually tell by looking at the female end and seeing differences between some of the pins. Most of the modern cables will have all 9, to fit Sega Genesis, etc.
