Collecting sins you have committed

Confess any collecting sins you've committed such as opening sealed games, throwing stuff away, altering things, etc. I will admit I opened a sealed copy of Mario Clash for the Virtual Boy and sealed copies of World Tour Racing, Primal Rage, Hover Strike, and Myst for the Jaguar CD. In my opinion games are made to played so I rarely keep things sealed. :-D

Ive opened up a few games to attempt to use there shells for multicarts and destroyed the labels only to find out that the multicart pcp didnt fit.

I played more games via emulation than on original hardware. ( even though I own the games and systems)

Also I am very tempted to sell my cart and CIB games and go the multicart/everdrive route for all my games.

Collecting sin? leaving sealed games unopened. They are games, not cookies! :D

I think it's bad to leave games that could be enjoyed by other people stored for nothingness.

Thankfully they are just the most common Arcadia 2001 games so they aren't missed that much, right?

If altering is a sin, then I'm guilty too. 50/60 Htz and region mod, I did them! Better video out too, I did it as well!

Throwing games? I did. I couldn't get ride of some FIFA games on PS2, so I pulled their boxes for replacing damaged PS2 boxes, then I get ride of them.

I've opened a sealed game, checked that the inside manual had moisture marks and replace with a manual from another copy.

I received a game in perfect state, opened the box with scissors, and in the process made a cut in the top flap of the box :_( now I understand why the box feel so thick :P

Cleaning a cartridge with swabs, the cotton displaced and the stick made some scratches :_(

First times I used alcohol and some white marks remained in the black cartridge :woozy:

I'm starting to purchase game boxes from different companies for others. CBS 2600 boxes in lieu of their Coleco counterparts for instance. Art is nearly the same, so am enjoying the cost savings!

The occasional Atari ST, Commodore 64 or IBM box for my Amiga disks and manuals when it makes financial sense too. Some of those boxes are identical with the only difference being a sticker placed on the spine denoting the platform.

I "modded" my Power Base Converter by breaking the plastic off the back so it would fit on a Sega Genesis model 2.

Now, I have a Sega Genesis model 1, and new unofficial model 2 converters have been manufactured, making my "mod" pointless and wantonly destructive.

What's the point of manufacturing MDII converters, when there are official ones? Adding the Sega Card port?

I think my worst collecting sin is all the 2600 and 7800 boxes I threw away. Of course most people didn't think to keep boxes at the time, but the sad thing is I actually did keep all of my boxes for a time, then my mother convinced me to throw them away. And then I kept throwing them away, even into the early years of college when I was buying games for a buck a pop at the local Big Lots. But soon after that I came around, and I've been keeping boxes ever since.

Of course I've opened plenty of sealed games too, including Road Runner, Ikari Warriors and MotoRodeo. Hey, I collect to play!

They are super rare and hard to find offered for sale compared to the number of people who want a model 2 PBC solution.

Also, there is now a version that contains the FM chip so you can play Master System games with the full sound: http://www.stoneagegamer.com/powerbase-mini-fm.html

I stuck about $1000 worth of NOS arcade side art on my ceilings/walls/etc..

I didn't know it was worth money at the time, lol

Hey at least that made for one cool-ass room! If friends/relatives who liked gaming saw that they'd probably be like "awesome!" and if it was an owned home, maybe you could tack the $1000 onto the house's value or if rented, the insurance coverage. lol
