PBI or ECI on XEGS, is it possible?

Is it possible to craft a PBI or an ECI interface in an XEGS?

Duplicating the cartridge connectors won't be that hard, but how about the rest of the PBI makeup or alternatively the ECI?

Is anything missing? (apart the Audio in for the ECI)

I remember the MPD was kind of messed up on XEGS to allow for Missile Command select (or was that EXTSEL)

Yep, the MMU difference becomes a sticking point. MPD is required for PBI-compliant devices to be able to switch their Rom in.

Then there's the physical aspect. You need to breakout the cart signals as well since it'd be kinda pointless doing a vertical ECI port next to the normal cart slot.

I would suspect also since you need a normal XL or XE MMU that then creates the need for select logic to handle the ROM since the XEGS Rom is unique in that it's 32K and holds everything.

Nice, so Candle added ECI to his XEGS.

I guess this picture http://stryker.pigwa.net/xegs/17.jpg

is where the 10 ECI connections are supposedly taken from (the 2 small 5 wire ribbon cables).

Here's a forum with blown out pics of the MB http://atariage.com/forums/topic/186115-xe-motherboard-revisions/

Wish there was some documentation on what those points are on the motherboard, I'm pretty sure some piggy back on the enhanced MMU of U1MB.

Anyway I annotated that pics with the chips name on the relevant parts, it's attached to the post.

Looks like:

3 from CPU

1 from Freddie

1 from LS138

4 or 5 from (E)MMU

If we exclude +5V/GND/Reserved/AudioIn from the ECI, it seems it found all the rest.
