I have a 7800 and would like to use CX40 and Suncom TAC-2 controlers. Problem is the fire buttons dont work . Is there an adapter ? Can i use a 7800 cable and wire to the CX40 or TAC-2 ? Any Suggestions would be great.. Back story just got the 7800 had a 2600 in the 80's so I'm new to AtariAge.. Merry Christmas AtariAge and members..

If you look at the tac 2 and really think about it a two button game is pretty much impossible to play . You have to wrap your left hand somehow over the top and at an angle to be able to press both buttons and with a button masher like Scramble it would make it even that much harder . Try to buy a Euro pad .

I thought about doing this same thing. Then realized the same thing AtariBrian said: there's just no way you can use both buttons. I have a couple of Wico sticks with one button on the base and one at the top of the handle. I think that configuration would be a more usable conversion.

If you're handy with soldering and wiring and such, a converted Radica Space Invaders plug-n-play makes a nice 7800 controller.

Turn the controller 90 drill a new hole for control cable plug the original with a rubber plug. You will also need to rotate the stick controls 90 inside..

I considered that, too, but I so dislike the Tac-2 that I decided it wasn't worth the effort and just sold them off cheap. :)

You don't have to actually rotate anything mechanically, if that's what you meant. Just a little more rewiring while you're rewiring the buttons and adding resistors (to keep it single-button/2600 compatible) along with the new cable.

Genesis controllers are a more plentiful source of 9 wire cables than 7800 controllers, in case you want proceed with your mod.
