Kurt_Woloch
Here are my times for this past week (September 28th through October 4th)... Online (non-eligible): Children of Ur - 54 min. in 3 sessions Electric Racing - 73 min. in 2 sessions Nonograms - 111 min. in 2 sessions TI-99: Freddy - 59 min. in 2 sessions The first thing I played this week was "Children of Ur", a massive multiplayer online game which is still in an alpha stage. It's basically a 2D game with a perspective similar to games like Sonic the Hedgehog where you can harvest things from different plants, collect Quoins (a kind of in-game currency) and spend them on various items. I heard you can also craft things now from other things, but I didn't get far enough to try that. Then I tried to solve the "nonogram of the week" on a German online site twice, but failed both times. This week's Nonogram seems to be particularly hard!!! Finally, yesterday I learned that the keeper of this site, Albert, actually drives an electric car, a Tesla. So I went to see if there's actually any games about electric cars, and I found "Electric racing". Here you basically enter different races with up to 3 cars and various upgrades and get prize money for finishing. Sneaking close to enemy cars gets you more charge on your battery and speeds up your car, and only that enables you to win a race. You have to unlock every upgrade and further tracks (16 in total) by buying them with your prize money. After having won the last race, you only get the choice of retrying it or quitting the game. However, you can't lose the game since you can always re-participate in every unlocked race for further funds without having to pay an entree fee. In between, I replayed the old TI-99 game "Freddy" which sets you out in a cave maze in search for the exit, surrounded by enemy creatures such as mice, ghosts and mummies.

BurritoBeans
<insert some stupid thing involving the word "games" here> 3DO: Street Fighter II - 15 mintues Atari 2600: Pitfall - 5 minutes Neo Geo Pocket: Dark Arms: Beast Buster - 159 minutes PC Engine: Splatterhouse - 16 minutes Sharp X1: The Portopia Serial Murder Case - 98 minutes Might and Magic Book One: The Secret of the Inner Sanctum - 209 minutes 3-D Bomberman - 67 minutes Brain Buster - 79 minutes Xanadu: Dragon Slayer II - 197 minutes Ys I - 82 minutes Zeliard - 281 minutes Sharp X68000: Cameltry - 78 minutes Total Playtime - 1286m/21.43h A pretty exciting week overall for me, I got some boxes in with my new X1 Twin and some games, and I really played the heck out of it. Lots of fun enough games, but the only one that I haven't played before was Brain Buster as the rest seem to all be ports or just on other systems in general. Also, I played a good amount of Dark Arms: Beast Buster on the bus so that is an added bonus. Apart from that, just a ton of MTG, some D&D with a new playgroup, and some Tomb Raider.

zylon
5200- River Raid- 20min GBC- Dragon Warrior III- 15hrs 20min Am now leveling up to beat Divinegon in the bonus sky-world. This version (also SNES) give you the option of battling through the sky-world and Divinegon will grant one wish if you beat him. In the regular game, you are following your father and trying to catch up with him. You do catch up, only to see him get beaten by King Hydra. Divingeon will resurrect him if you choose. It adds another dimension to the game IMHO.
+thegoldenband
My times for the week: NES: Breakthru - 5 min. Tennis - 56 min. Not much from me this week, for a variety of reasons. But I at least beat Level 2 in my least-favorite tennis game ever, winning the first match 6-2 6-4 and the second 6-3 7-6(4). Three more difficulty levels to go...
Skippy B. Coyote
This week was a slower one for our household, partially due to real life obligations and partially due to the lack of auto-fire in the arcade versions of Xevious and 1942. I'm really enjoying those two games on the new 60-in-1 arcade machine, but man do they ever wear your fingers out! Ineligible The Pinball Arcade (Android) - 81 minutes Arcade Arkanoid - 26 minutes Centipede - 42 minutes Donkey Kong - 6 minutes Frogger - 18 minutes Galaga - 5 minutes Ms. Pac-Man - 20 minutes Ms. Pac-Man (Speed-Up Version) - 11 minutes Shao-Lin's Road - 21 minutes Space Invaders - 11 minutes Xevious - 66 minutes 1942 - 96 minutes 1943: The Battle of Midway - 13 minutes 1943 Kai: Midway Kaisen - 6 minutes Atari 2600 Dungeon - 23 minutes Frogger - 49 minutes Missile Command - 27 minutes Moon Patrol - 44 minutes Space Invaders - 14 minutes Game Boy Space Invaders - 8 minutes Game Boy Color Frogger - 9 minutes Project S-11 - 20 minutes NES Freedom Force - 43 minutes Kirby's Adventure - 152 minutes Mechanized Attack - 26 minutes Operation Wolf - 33 minutes Total Play Time This Week870 minutes (14 hours 30 minutes) Individual System Play Times This Week Arcade: 341 minutes NES: 254 minutes Atari 2600: 157 minutes Android: 81 minutes Game Boy Color: 29 minutes Game Boy: 8 minutes For my gaming time this week, most of it was spent playing old arcade favorites on the household's recently acquired arcade machine. I've also been exploring some new games on it that I had never played before getting this machine, like Capcom's classic 1942. I spent a little time with the two different versions of 1943 as well, but sadly they're two of the handful of games on the iCade 60-in-1 board that suffer from poor sound quality and really grate on the ears. I'm not too disappointed though, since I prefer the simplicity of 1942 anyway. The Atari 2600 also got a fair bit of love this week, with the wife and I taking turns playing Frogger, Missile Command, and Moon Patrol. The real surprise of the week was just how much attention the NES got! After letting it gather dust for the better part of a year, both the misses and I have been playing a fair bit of NES games lately. For my part I had an awesome time with the NES Zapper, blasting terrorists, enemy soldiers, and robots (as well as the occasional unintentional civilian ) in Freedom Force, Operation Wolf, and Mechanized attack. I really enjoy all three of those games, from the branching paths and smooth pacing of Mechanized Attack to the trigger-finger-crippling intensity of Operation Wolf; though Freedom Force is still by far my favorite. It's a game that feels like it was really designed for the "one shot at a time" NES Zapper, rather than a port of an arcade game that was originally meant to be played with a full-auto light gun. For my wife's part in things, she decided to play through Kirby's Adventure again and explore every inch of every stage until she finds all the secret areas and gets 100% completion. It could take her a while, but I know she'll be able to pull it off. That's all for this week! Great job on the tracker this week everyone, there's some serious variety up there! +thegoldenband
Pins and needles. Jeez, don't you think that's kind of drastic?! I mean, I'm only a day late, surely we can work something out, there's no need for voodoo... Ahem ahem. Here's the summary for Week 40, running from September 28 - October 4. We logged 6295 minutes of eligible playtime, playing 71 games on a total of 17 systems. Top 10: 1. Dragon Warrior III (Game Boy Color) - 920 2. Kaboom (Atari 2600) - 804 3. Puyo Puyo Tsu (WonderSwan) - 474 4. Centipede (Atari 2600) - 400 5. Zeliard (Sharp X1) - 281 6. Might and Magic Book One: The Secret of the Inner Sanctum (Sharp X1) - 209 7. Donkey Kong Jr. (NES/Famicom) - 200 8. Xanadu: Dragon Slayer II (Sharp X1) - 197 9. Silent Hunter (PC (DOS)) - 186 10. StarCraft (PC (Windows 95/98)) - 180 10. Story Machine (TI-99/4A) - 180 Pre-NES top 10: 1. Kaboom (Atari 2600) - 804 2. Centipede (Atari 2600) - 400 3. Zeliard (Sharp X1) - 281 4. Might and Magic Book One: The Secret of the Inner Sanctum (Sharp X1) - 209 5. Xanadu: Dragon Slayer II (Sharp X1) - 197 6. Story Machine (TI-99/4A) - 180 7. Miner 2049er (TI-99/4A) - 176 8. The Portopia Serial Murder Case (Sharp X1) - 98 9. 1942 (Arcade) - 96 10. Ys I (Sharp X1) - 82 Top 10 systems: 1. Atari 2600 (1451) 2. Sharp X1 (1013) 3. Game Boy Color (949) 4. NES/Famicom (653) 5. TI-99/4A (570) 6. WonderSwan (474) 7. Arcade (341) 8. PC (DOS) (186) 9. PC (Windows 95/98) (180) 10. Neo Geo Pocket Color (159) And now it's Dragon Warrior III and Kaboom in the top two spots for five weeks in a row! Surely that must be a record? (Paging Leslie Nielsen.) With this week's additional time, Dragon Warrior III GBC vaults into the #4 all-time spot with 6130 minutes, and is closing in on Berzerk at #3 (with 7484 minutes as of now). Meanwhile Silent Hunter is now the #5 game all-time, taking over that spot from the #6 game, Pac-Man Collection for the Atari 7800. That could easily change, however, as only one minute now separates them, at 5482 and 5481 minutes respectively! Finally, the Sharp X1 is #2 with a bullet, taking the second spot on the system charts (and half the spots on the pre-NES charts) in its first-ever appearance on the tracker, while the WonderSwan proves it's no one-hit wonder by taking spots on two charts, including the week's #3 game.

Skippy B. Coyote
Awesome. Again, I don't think we thank you enough, thegoldenband. This tracker is really an awesome deal every week, and I know it is a labor of love maintaining it. Things like this make our hobbies worthwhile. Thanks. I couldn't agree more! Ever since I started participating in this tracker I've noticed that I always feel more excited to play video games, and that I end up playing a larger variety of games than I used to. I often look back at what I played the previous week and decide what I'm going to play this week based off that, rotating systems and game genres regularly. All the hard work that thegoldenband does on this tracker has really breathed new life into my favorite pastime, giving it some structure and giving me motivation to keep the games I play fresh and varied.

karokoenig
Well, what do you know... some more variety from me this week: Atari 2600 Klax: 235 min Tried my best in the Gold Medal Bracket tournament of this year's HSC - ended up in the Top 8 for the whole season. Rather undeserved, however, since two really good players went inactive towards the end of the season and fell down in ranks. So I, the personification of a mediocre player, ended up being pitted against Northcoastgamer. Which basically means: Just kick yourself in the nuts and roll over. You're done for. And so I am. Was a lot of fun, though. Not the kicking in the nuts part, of course... SNES Defender: 4 min Defender 2: 3 min Joust: 6 min Robotron 2084: 5 min Sinistar: 5 min Finally got lucky on a local flea market and got the Williams Arcade Collection cart for a very reasonable price. I was after that one for a while now. It isn't particularly expensive in my neck of the woods, but still not easy to find in the wild. I never played the arcade originals, except for Joust, so I don't know how good the ports are. But they certainly are arcade hard, even on medium difficulty. Those were the days... Sega Master System Heavyweight Champ: 2 min Moonwalker: 8 min Two more flea market finds here. Both suck in my opinion. Heavyweight Champion is the most basic button masher I can think of, and Moonwalker... ah well, I was never a big fan of Michael Jackson. Why the hell didn't they make a game based on Slayer or Overkill? Now that would be fun. Sega Mega Drive Shove it!: 45 mn Nice title... Actually a Genesis game which fortunately isn't region locked. Yeah, It's Sokoban for the Genesis. Does a console with badass Blast Processing need such a game ported to it? I say YES. It's as much fun as any other version of Sokoban on any system you can think of. Also, it gets surprisingly hard even in some early levels. Either that, or I am getting old and stupid. PC (DOS) Silent Hunter: 184 min Submarine warfare in World War 2 has been of interest to me for over two decades now. This game (I'm playing through the whole war again) did more to me than just provide captivating gameplay. During the last few months, I ended up piling up a substantial library of pretty much all the relevant personal account books about sub warfare in the Pacific. Not only the US, but also Japanese and British/Dutch operations. So if anyone ever needs a recommendation for a good read aout that topic - I'm your man.
