+thegoldenband
Here's the summary for Week 6, running from February 2 - 8. We logged 2124 minutes of eligible playtime, playing 36 games on a total of 11 systems. Top 10: 1. Top Players' Tennis [aka Four Player Tennis] (NES/Famicom) - 481 2. Pac-Man Collection (Atari 7800) - 250 3. Kaboom (Atari 2600) - 236 4. Armor Attack (Atari 7800) - 130 5. Mr. Do! (Atari 2600) - 115 6. Silent Service (NES/Famicom) - 100 7. Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete (PlayStation) - 98 8. Racket Attack (NES/Famicom) - 95 9. Joust (Atari 2600) - 70 9. Zool 2 (Atari Jaguar) - 70 Pre-NES top 10: 1. Pac-Man Collection (Atari 7800) - 250 2. Kaboom (Atari 2600) - 236 3. Armor Attack (Atari 7800) - 130 4. Mr. Do! (Atari 2600) - 115 5. Joust (Atari 2600) - 70 6. Donkey Kong (Atari 7800) - 40 7. Donkey Kong Jr. (Atari 7800) - 35 8. Gyruss (Arcade) - 30 9. Asteroids Deluxe (Atari 7800) - 25 10. Dig Dug (Atari 8-bit) - 20 Top 10 systems: 1. NES/Famicom (894) 2. Atari 7800 (480) 3. Atari 2600 (430) 4. PlayStation (98) 5. Atari Jaguar (70) 6. Atari 8-bit (45) 7. Arcade (40) 8. SNES (30) 9. Genesis (20) 10. Odyssey^2 (12) It mispronounces the first name of the celebrity who endorsed it, but Top Players' Tennis featuring Chris Evert & "Eye-Ven" Lendl is our top game for the week nonetheless, and leads a consortium of NES titles to the top of the charts. And speaking of the NES: though it just missed the top 10 for the week, Super Mario Bros. is now the 145th member of the 1000-minute club, with 1041 minutes logged to date. It might seem surprising that such a popular game hadn't joined the club yet, and in fact it's been on the edge for some time, but Iwantgames's 60 minutes pushed it over the boundary at last.
+thegoldenband
BTW, @Iwantgames: NES -Defender of The Crown - 5minSilent Service - 100min Both of these games are still unbeaten over at the NintendoAge effort. I know they'd be grateful for the help, especially with Silent Service -- having someone who enjoys the game is perfect. They're doing very well so far, with almost 550 NES games done (!), but every bit of help counts. I beat Hydlide and Top Players' Tennis for them, among other games, and Racket Attack is soon to fall...
carlsson
I bet everyone who play Super Mario Bros take all the shortcuts through the game so they finish it within minutes, so it never amounts to a lot of play time. For similar reasons, I strongly doubt The Last V8 on the C64 ever would reach the 1000 minute club.
karokoenig
especially with Silent Service Well, how do you "beat" this game, really? There is no campaign mode, just single war patrols. Back in the days, I played the hell out of Silent Service on the C64. My way of "beating" the game was to play all war patrols in chronological order and write down the types and tonnage of ships I sunk. But that doesn't make historical sense either, since the patrols are all by different commanders in different subs. Also, what criteria for "beating" the game would you apply? There are a ton of realism settings from "3-year-old" to utterly impossible. And anyway: the NES version is sooo bad compared to basically every other version of this game. If you don't know any other port, it might seem playable. But if you ever played the C64 version, you will never accept the clunky and utterly unrealistic, tactics-free gameplay on the NES.
+thegoldenband
Well, how do you "beat" this game, really? There is no campaign mode, just single war patrols. For a lot of games with no clear win condition, they've had to come up with something that seems to make sense: topping the high score table, looping the stages, etc. In the case of Silent Service, it's "Finish all convoy missions and war scenarios". So it's along the same lines as what you did BITD, I guess. I've never played the C64 version, but I did have some fun with the NES port a long, long time ago.

karokoenig
Atari 2600 Mr. Do!: 32 min Mega Drive Greendog the beached Surfer Dude: 39 min A few attempts at bettering my score for this wek's 2600 HSC, which failed miserably. Definetly not my game. Picked up Greendog earlier today on a flea market for € 1,50. A simple platformer that began promising enough Controls ok, nice relaxing music, hot 16-bit bikini babe in the intro... But the second level on the third island made me lose patience. Underwater level. The character moves slower as slow as molasse. Not too hard actually, but soooo tedious. karokoenig
Is there any surfing in that game? Not as far as I got into the game before I quit. The closest thing to surfing was a short Skateboarding level.

Thanks very much, Atarian7. You know I'm NOT good at Kaboom, and I'm NOT able to score 999,999 points in one week. I'm able to reach 999,999 in one week on the following 2600 games (I will mention 10 of them) - Buck Rogers, Defender, H.E.R.O., Joust, Laser Blast, Megamania, Missile Command, Millipede, Phoenix and Yars' Revenge. And on Atari 7800, I rolled the score (1,000,000 points) in one week on 2 games: Dark Chambers and Mario Bros. +thegoldenband
Atarian7 and oyamafamily, have you ever tried Bugs? Most people hate it, I've always liked it. It's a twitch game with a much lower time commitment than most, especially since the score is only three digits. (Not that I've rolled it -- that's still on my to-do list. Actually the only game I think I've maxed out the score on is Gunsmoke for NES, unless you count Pitfall.)
carlsson
Another week of barely a blip, this time I even didn't bring out any real hardware but resorted to emulation. Intellivision: Stack' Em - 26 min. Zombie Marbles - 3 min.
