Amiibo hoarding

Has anybody who collects these had any luck finding the non-major Nintendo characters? Every store I go to only has Zelda, Link, Mario, Kirby, Donkey Kong, et cetera. Stupid me the very first day they were available in stores I saw a Villager and thought "I can wait to get this it won't be very popular" but the OPPOSITE occured. Apparently everybody is hoarding the 'rare" ones to resell them on Amazon and eBay. I'm wondering if anybody else on AA is (1.) trying to collect them all and (2.) having this much trouble finding them at the retail prices. I refuse to pay $50 for a Villager when it was in stores for $12.99 (and still should be).

Your angry at those that are called scalpers. :P

I don't collect them all, just certain ones. I check online every so often to see if anything is available that I want and it has to be on sale. I never pay over retail price (scalper prices). I ordered Pit and Lucario online a while back and got those. I also have a few of the main characters Link, Mario, Kirby, DK on discount buy 1 get one or buy 2 get 1 half off.

If your a collector here's a nice site to help you find them:

http://www.nowinstock.net/videogaming/games/amiibo/

Just google around and you'll find ways of finding out when stuff will be released and how to pre-order it online. Sometimes you will see them (rare's) in stores but usually only the first week of release.

Welcome to the world of toy collecting. This is exactly what you'd expect of any figure short packed in a case.

It's a rather predictable overlap of the assholes in videogaming and the assholes in toy collecting. I was more amused at the story of the guy who was spending $35K on Rosalina figures so he could prevent anyone else from purchasing one.

That's an amazingly useful site! Thank you. :)

I am not trying to get them all, but the ones I am interested in seem to be the rare ones. So far I have Bowser, Link, Zelda, and Samus. I am not trying to get Pokemon characters, villager, fox, little mac, wii fit trainer, or kirby characters. That being said, I still can't get the Xenoblade Chronicals character Shulk, the Kid Icarus character Pit, or the Fire Emblem characters, because these are "rare" and were/will be jumped on by re-sellers. I really wish Nintendo would do the fans a service and squash the re-seller market for these and either make them available through the nintendo store, or flood the market and devalue them to msrp. I am not paying above msrp for toys, I can hardly get myself to feel justified spending 14$ on a tiny figure for posterity.

Huh. wonder if I should buy the occasional amibo of my favorite characters just -in case- I end up getting a Wii U down the road, if only because of scalpers... I certainly wouldn't pay above retail for them though regardless.

If you see them in the wild you should buy them (for the hard to find ones like Pit, Little Mac, etc) because they're already valued so high you can resell them instantly for more than what you paid for them. I think this is a problem right now, and I hate to encourage it, but that's the mindset everyone else has I believe. I've never seen a "rare" amiibo in the wild, and have talked to a lot of people who buy them all when they find them because they know they can make literally 10x their investment back (at best) and at worst, double their $14 investment. I hope nintendo floods the market with "rare" amiibos so that they devalue back down to msrp, because scalpers are all over this market right now and it's discouraging to people who want to buy them for use, not for flipping.

Everyone tends to use the same lines to justify the distribution. It's not exactly like action figures. With action figures, there are multiple characters to a case with every shipment sent. Amiibo were sent to stores at launch with a big shipper of assorted figures, but every other shipment after that are boxes of 4 Amiibo of the same SKU. Don't see certain characters? That's because they're not being shipped out as frequently.

Another thing people claim is that stores aren't ordering enough. Again, not entirely true. A store like Target relies on it's distribution center to get product in, in order to feed the stores. If a distribution center can't get the product, then stores don't get them. There are also characters that simply aren't going to be restocked, and go discontinued right after the first shipment. Rosalina was one of those from the newest wave. Sheik is too, and Mega Man is supposedly online only with Target. Not a Target exclusive, but simply he won't be in the actual stores, just online for them.
