DumpsterJ
Hi , i'm new here and looking for some help. I recently got an atari 5200 and it has a problem with the video. The video is clear and colorful but it kind of "pops" its visual and audible. When it makes the pop noise a line goes through the screen or it shifts up or down for a split second and goes back to normal. However it "pop" every few seconds. Without a cart in the screen is pretty much black but I can still hear and see the "pop". Also the controllers triggers dont work but I can handle that. I just dont know what to try to fix the video output. Im using the 5200 on a plasma with a direct coax adapter. The video looks fine except the "pops", lol. quylein
Is it a 4 port? I do alot of svideo mods and haven't seen this before. The RF on a 4 port might have some sort of interference if the box is going bad.
DumpsterJ
Sorry , I meant to put that its a 2 port . It looks/sounds kinda like an old vcr tape when it crackles for a min and the picture distorts.
quylein
If you can use another power jack. 9v 1amp will work center positive see if the power brick is acting up. If you could I would jumper a secondary RF modular unit to see if that's the issue. Without looking at it and with limited knowledge since I have yet to experience this that's about what I'd do before I would just do video mod and see if it still exsisted. I would also check with a second GTIA chip or possibly one of the capasitors in the power to video circuit between the GTIA and the RF modulator. Good luck
