Problem with a Beeshu Zipper controller for NES

GoldenWheels

Recommended Posts

I got a Beeshu Zipper off of ebay recently. When I plugged it in to use it, I though it was completely non-responsive. Well it does do ONE thing:

When I hit the A button--it registers as a press of the start button (!). No other buttons do anything. When I "un pause" a game like double dragon using the A button, my guy will jump briefly upon the game restarting (which in DD would be an A+B push).

Turbos are off. I opened it up and cleaned all the contacts, looked for random crap in the controller or broken parts. Saw nothing. Any ideas? I'd love to fix this thing.

Thanks 7800 fan, I should have mentioned my tech knowledge extends as far as unscrewing the controller itself!

Is this something I would do with a volt meter? I have a shit one, somewhere....

Assuming it was the cable....could I just resolder a stock nes cable on there (There's no extra buttons on this thing, wonder what the odds are so far as color matching a stock NES cable)? I haven't soldered in years but the beauty of broken stuff is.....well it can't get any worse.

Color is not likely to match, you would need to figure out how to use ohm meter setting to figure which wire goes to which pin to correctly swap the cable over. It may be easier for you to ask for someone who is knowledgeable in electronics to take a look at the controller. Preferably someone local to keep cost of shipping down.

Yes I think this is beyond my tech level, sadly. And repairs are likely more than a buying another. Thanks for your help man.

Get this--I happen to see at the video game pawn shop we have around here, a real cheap but working, grey Beeshu Zipper with an AWFUL, gross stain on the sticker--I figure no big deal, I'll just switch the guts out, and at least my intiial one came with the mini-stick (which is hard to find). How perfect!

Well I get it home and open and see they changed the fricken casing mold at some point....my green one (that I wanted to use the case for) is standard wire on the way out, the grey one has a fat "collar" on teh controller end which has to set into the hole a certain way. So the guts don't fit. I could open up the hole but the way the plastic is there it would likely just shatter.

So now I have a grey one with no sticker! :-D But it works! Good thing I love these little controllers.
