copper20
I've tried running a dead pixel fixer but these black spots just WON'T go away! If I press on them, they multiply like a cancer. Is there any way to fix this? I hit the monitor because I was so angry at a game of Dota 2 and I'll get a new one, but in the meantime, I'd like the black spots to go away. copper20
That's nice, I love how monitors today are so fragile and if you get angry at a game and hit the monitor you risk damage. Seriously, can't we go back to CRT monitors that were built like tanks? Come on, man, I had an old Windows 95 Packard Bell PC with a CRT monitor and it never did stuff like this. Why'd they have to make 'em so fragile, especially since autistics like me are more prone to anger and damage? +save2600
If I were you, I'd go to Home Depot or someplace and get yourself a piece of clear acrylic or Lexan, cut to fit your monitor and Velcro that puppy to your screen. Would go a long way in protecting your monitor. Or you could just not throw things at it.
copper20
The monitor's under warranty but that won't matter since I physically hit it. Oh well, I'll get a new monitor this week. Seriously though, LCD monitors are too fragile. They need to make ones that are just as strong as CRT monitors.

Seriously though, LCD monitors are too fragile. They need to make ones that are just as strong as CRT monitors. Yeah, it's as if they're made out of thin sheets of glass or something. There are ruggedized LCD's for industrial and, I assume, military use. But, I suspect you could break and replace 2 or 3 before you equaled the cost of one ruggedized monitor. Maybe you can go on Alibaba.com or similar and just find a new LCD panel for your monitor. There are also enclosures that will protect an LCD monitor. Velcro Duct Tape and a piece of 1/4" polycarbonate acrylic might be effective and cheap enough.
7800fan
Be nice to the monitors. Older LCD were a little less fragile as well, being made of thick glass. Today's LCD are made very thin to be light and cheap and thin plastic sheets (not sure what type of plastic, probably acrylic) can crack if it's exposed to excessive force like your hand or a Wii-mote with broken strap. OTOH I am glad CRT is mostly extinct. The last time someone tried to sell a portable computer with a CRT, it was tiny and still frickin' heavy. I can't imagine a laptop with 17" CRT being comfortable on your lap after an hour. Now if only modern LCD TV were friendly with ancient 240i video standard of the video game consoles. Many that I checked tried badly to upscale it to 480p but with alternating black lines like a giant comb over the screen. I would keep a decent sized older CRT TV for older games but it means giving up 5 or 6 game consoles to make room for one TV
copper20
That is absolutely ridiculous. Why do they have to keep making LCD screens more fragile? Just so they can save money?
Osgeld
who hits their monitor, I have had my hissy fits but damn control your rage quits
chas10e
there are many thin layers in there http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/lcd2.htm I'm not autistic but I did used to enjoy bouncing the NES controller off a CRT TV screen, catching it in mid air to hit the reset button for another go the newer TV & controllers wouldn't hold up to that my 360 controller I will pitch into the soft cushions of a sofa another thing I will do is laugh & compliment my opponent on how crafty they were in destroying me. You hit it and it does its best to fuck up your viewing experience. CRTs are stupid doormats. They sit there and do nothing like wimpy shit they are.. To properly protect an LCD against that level of abuse you'll need quite the thick piece of glass or plexiglass, bringing it up to the weight of a CRT.
