Dream Games (Mockup Screenshots)

Atariboy2600

Recommended Posts

First off Im not a programmer at all and don't have a clue in how to make any games on a real hardware but I love to dream of what if games I would like to see on a real Atari system like the 2600 and Im kind of good in making sprite artworks so back in 2012 I made up some mockup screenshots for the 2600 and I know that some idea maybe impossible to pull off but hey why now shear the artwork.

The BombJack and Marble Madness titles could be done without flicker. The other title screens might be possible, provided you use flicker.

Of the games, only the first BombJack game screen is anywhere close to the abilities of the 2600. Assuming the use of flicker, along the lines of Frogger, you can show all the bombs and players moving around the screen. The platforms would need to drop the rounded edges, as well as the color gradient unless you don't mind the gradient also showing up in the box that frames the screen.

While that game play area of Gradius looks possible using DPC+ with ARM, see Draconian, the status/score area at the bottom is not. I'm not very familiar with Gradius, though I seem to recall it had much more going on than that mockup would imply.

Atariboy2600,

You really should hook up with some classic computer and videogame system programmers here and work with them to create the graphics for their games. I know PacManPlus was working with an artist here on Atariage to help him create graphics for his games. You are a great artist and could really help some of the programmers here that on't have those skills.

Hi Atariboy2600,

nice mockup, I especially like Roc'n Rope and Pandora's Palace. :)

Begin to keep in mind that the 2600 background resolution has only 40 columns and that you can not use both 7800 160 mode and 320 mode on the same line.

Moreover, I would recall that the talented developer PacManPlus has already made the 7800 versions of Pac-Man Collection, Super Pac-Man, Scramble, Berzerk, and Defender is in progress. ;)

And more Namco games for the 5200 and 7800.

A few years ago I started to work on a graphics hack of 7800 Ms. Pac-Man (original version) but I still have to refine some details because there was always something to do that seemed more urgent than Ms. Pacman.

I enclose the ROM in case may be of interest to try this version with alternative graphics.

Really love the look of the Ghost Monsters and Ms. Pac-Man. Improved animation (I.E. Ms. Pac-Man’s horizontal movement) and extreme similarities to their Arcade counterparts are handled beautifully. Of course, not surprising, but still awesome work! Thanks for sharing it. :)
