atari8warez
Some of my Atari power supplies seem to be giving up the ghost lately. This is the second C061982 ("The Box"), which failed recently. All I am getting from my computers is a scrambled screen like in the video below when I try to use the power supply. The voltage with computer turned OFF is 5.17v at the power connector, it drops to 4.50v with the power switch turned ON. My question is what could possibly go wrong with this type of power supply. I never opened one to look inside and thought I might ask here first before grabbing my dremel with a cutting disk.
RodLightning
Electrolytic capacitors in the supply might need to be replaced if you can get to them.
atari8warez
You're right.... I went ahead and took the dremel to "The Box" anyway. It looks like (and measures like) both electrolytics have gone south. Need to get some fresh ones.. RodLightning
I wish the ingot type supplies could be opened like that!
atari8warez
It would even have been better if they used screws instead of epoxy on the enclosure. They made these PS to be thrown away even when the fuse is blown, such a waste!..

+Larry
Nice job! Now you have one of those "repairable power supplies!" A couple of caps and dabs of hot melt and a nice strip of electrical tape and she'll be good as new. -Larry
atari8warez
Yeah they'll be repairable from now on, that makes 4 repairables so far. 2 x C017845 and 2 x C061982. Gotta replenish my hot glue stick stock Edited February 28, 2015 by atari8warez
