Ikari Warriors: Does it end?

There is an actual end to it, I've reached it a couple of times. It's not much of an end, though, and the game just loops over from the beginning afterward.

Interesting. That'll give me a reason to practice a bit, I suppose. Do you recall how long the game is, or roughly what your score was when you finished it?

I couldn't say exactly. I think you've got to cross at least five or six rivers before you get there. I feel like the game may seem longer than it actually is since your character moves kind of sluggishly and you have to play very methodically and carefully to survive that long.

I don't remember what my scores were around that point. 20,000-ish? IIRC you get an extra life at 10,000 and I got at least one. But then, my style of play is "kill everything," so I don't bypass very many enemies and leave points on the table. Your mileage may vary.

Heh, my play style isn't all that different, evidently.

I dug around Youtube and found a play-through video. He "finished" the game around 24,000 points, and at about the 14-minute mark. Don't think I'm too far off from that.

It's not a bad port for the 2600, though the 7800 version is obviously vastly better (that's my favorite version of the game).

I like the 2600 version for what it is, even if it plays more like Front Line than Ikari Warriors. A lot of the later 2600 games like Ikari Warriors, Xenophobe, Rampage, Radar Lock, etc. do a good job of making the system like a poor man's Atari 7800, or a REALLY poor man's Nintendo. ;)
