Atari Jaguar Gorf, White box #13 of 50

After burning myself a copy I can never imagine paying for this game what it is supposedly "worth." I guess for a really hardcore collector it might be a must have as an original release. I'm satisfied with my repro :)

Oh WELL! Matey! guess I'll just keep it or Ebay it, lol BTW Is piracy accepted here?

Maybe I should re-adjust my moral compass, but I have a hard time calling burning an expensive, rare, out of print game piracy. If I know I will never get the chance to experience something either due to its rarity or pricetag, then I'm burning it or buying a reproduction. To me it is just another form of emulation. I am not lowering its value since I would have never been a potential buyer in the first place.

Isn't it out of print because it was technically piracy itself?

Ha! You are correct, I forgot about that. Gorf tried getting it licensed and then Midway wanted the code for the game or something so he turned it into a big deal and pulled the game. I don't even think Midway is around anymore, I remember they were really struggling a few years back, didn't WB buy them out?

Nice early serial, should be no less than $900 for sure.

The blue box versions go for approx. $500 - 600 nowadays.

Try not to sell it here, too many morons with stupid (wrong) opinions will flame the thread.

Was that just a slam on the atariage community? Maybe I misunderstood? If not why hang around here if everyone is a moron with a (wrong) opinion except you?

No, Gorf (the basketcase) received permission from someone who didn't actually own the rights (Fenton) for Gorf (the game).

So yeah, all copies homemade or otherwise are unlicensed.

There's a freely available version of the game out there - it's even in one of the BJL ROM images along with some other homebrews. You can't put that genie back in the bottle and, AFAIR, Gorf never attempted to. The earlier version/s were likely while he was playing around in the "Jaguar Underground" or whatever those crazy kids called themselves, before he went all uber-paranoid about piracy and the evil hordes of yarrrrmateys all out to get him.

So best not to judge too hastily, just because someone has a CD image of Gorf the game, doesn't mean they copied the "original" from someone, they might have just found the version Gorf put out that had been made into a .CDI, and that's as "legal" as any copy of Gorf out, or they might have been clever and extracted it from the BJL ROM and burned an image made via JiFFi or something.

As for who might and might not be a moron... urgh. I'd say first in line for that label are those who swallowed his spiel whole and worshiped at his font of Pure Jag Powa. For all his talk, all he ever really did in well over a decade was port someone else's 1981 32 kilobyte arcade game and played around with Atari's own 3D renderer code. The GPU in main stuff he used to bang on about, that he claimed to have discovered and wished to patent (lol), was actually already used in at least two released games BITD, one of them being Rayman.

My vote for those who are the morons then, would be those who pay more for this CD-R game than they would for the real upright cabinet. Oh, and those who defend the man's paranoid idiocy and those close to him who fuel it.

You know you are exactly right, It's a crying shame that I posted a simple game and I hear how it's not worth the cdr its made with to how everyone hates Gorf the person. To everyone else who responded neg here, No I really didn't know the current value which is why I was asking for offers. I'll not get rid of the game here at all if I decide too, Ebay it'll go and all you naysayers can go screw yourself!!

Sue me. Oh wait that already almost happened to Gorf himself for creating Jag CD Gorf...

Yeah.....I've seen a copy sell in the past six month in the low $200's. It's a real crapshoot with Jag stuff though. Some loon recently spent nearly $500 on Madbodies and Downfall+ (with no offense to the latter as it's actually a fun game). Still, $900 is just.....

You are always going to get "more cash" on ebay. The marketplace is more of a "reasonable prices for like-minded enthusiasts" selling environment.

Err, what? There was just some background on the games history and the insanity of its Jaguar coder, it doesn't make it 'worth' any less.

And yes, you will of course likely get much more for it on Ebay than here, that's just the general nature of things though...

I'm trying to remember if I ever liked you, if you ever wonder why you have no friends....

Yes, he does it a lot lately or comments towards "Americans" in general

Ha, had no idea thats what actually happened. It was so hard to follow that dudes posts. I remember him ranting about Midway trying to steal his code, so was that all BS?..

I'm glad I sold my Jag stuff, too many crazies...you just have to make it all about you don't cha? Nobody cares...

Just take the free bumps and wait for an offer, not everyone has this kind of cash to throw around so big sales on a forum take a little while dude...Don't be such a "high voltage" about it

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, I bought a fake Gorf CD years back from a german guy called High Voltage in eBay (the seller told me it was original), luckily I paid 20€ but for a fake it is a lot of money.

Maybe it's just a coincidence but this AA High Voltage always writes when someone talks/sells this title, showed his original game and has exactly the same nick... I just hope he's not german, if he is...

OP, good luck with the sale and sorry for the off topic.

Many homebrew authors would disagree. Acceptance of making repro's depends on whether or not the original author is part of the right clique.
