timdu
Hello I am a newbie to the Colecovision - a Colecovision "virgin" if you will. My main focus has been the Atari 2600 and the Magnavox Odyssey2. I do not have one... however, I just picked up a COLECOVISION FLASHBACK but have not spent any time with it. Do you have a recommendation for a good game(s) to try first on there? Which ones to avoid.... Tim

ColecoDan
one thing to note, the colecovision flashback is pretty bad compared to all the other flashbacks so you might get more idea if you like colecovision by playing the emulators on the computer since they will look, sound, and play the same as the authentic colecovision. The reason I say that is because the colecovision flashback does not do any of that well. It is good for someone who has never seen the real games probably but I would not consider it a good advertisement for the colecovision considering the colecovision is way better.
NIAD
ColecoDan makes a very good point about going the emulation route using a PC since the Flashback's emulation leaves a lot to be desired. So with that said, download BlueMSX (the best ColecoVision emulator) and download the CV Rom Dump Project zip file that is pinned at the top of this forum for all your legacy CV gaming needs. The CV Flashback has it's place in all this retrogaming goodness, but it came up a bit short for a lot of us hardcore CV fans.

Tron Unit
Emulation might be good for a "testing the waters" but I don't think you really get the full Colecovision experience without the controller which I feel is a fundamental part of of the experience. Some people criticized the design and feel of them (both the original controllers and the FB controllers even more so which are close to the original design but have slightly shorter stems) but it takes just a bit of getting used to holding them. Once you get used to it, though, it's like riding a bike.
Nebulon
I would start with these: Bump ‘n’ JumpChoplifter!Cosmic AvengerFrenzyJungle HuntOmega RaceSpace FuryVentureZaxxon Unfortunately, there are a lot of duds on there. With that in mind, please don't let those taint your perception of the machine. As well, many of the greats are missing. So when looking beyond the flashback system, it's worth checking out these other titles someday: Mr. Do Mr. Do's Castle Front Line Donkey Kong Jr. Q*Bert Star Wars Gyruss Popeye Time Pilot Defender Centipede Roc 'n Rope Burger Time Carnival Mouse Trap Threshold Subroc Tutankham Tapper Edited March 2, 2015 by Nebulon
