Tempest
Whilst perusing the list of Coleco Adam software on Sacnews.net I came across the Coleco Presents Software for ADAM program. The screenshot shows a list of games that you could select and get more info on. What caught my eye is that there's an entry that says: Star Trek (d) I assume the d is for Disk as a later entry for Congo Bongo has a c next to it. All the other (d) games on this list are known to exist except for Star Trek. Was Coleco planning a Super Star Trek game for the ADAM? I haven't fired this program up on a real ADAM so I don't know what the text for the entry says. The screenshot can be seen on this page (scroll 3/4th of the way down): http://www.sacnews.net/adamcomputer/00_csl-bc.html On an unrelated note, a bit further down is a program called Convert which apparently converts stuff to and from ADAM CP/M. Has anyone ever used this? Could you use it to convert CP/M text adventures to ADAM CP/M?
Gabriel
The screenshot can be seen on this page (scroll 3/4th of the way down): http://www.sacnews.net/adamcomputer/00_csl-bc.html Considering the other things on that page, I'd guess that it's just a dump of the cartridge game to disk. Tempest
No, this is different. This is a "Find out about ADAM products" kind of program (remember those software catalog disks?). These aren't the actual games themselves, just advertisements for them.
phattyboombatty
I know that a Super Game version of Star Trek was advertised in the Coleco 1984 Catalog, along with Super versions of Smurf, Subroc, Frontline, Donkey Kong, DK Junior, and a few others. I'm sure retroillucid or NIAD has a scan of this… I came across the ad just last week, but it's open on my Mac at home. I'm using my mobile right now. NIAD
Tempest is correct, it's not a dump of the cartridge version that the software title "Coleco Presents: Software for the ADAM" is referring to. What exactly does "considering the other things on that page" mean anyway? Anyway, here is part of a page from the the 1st edition of the 1984 Coleco Electronics dealer catalog. While the 1982 and 1983 Coleco Press Kits have a lot of great stuff in them as well as flyers, the two 1984 catalogs are jaw-dropping for any CV & ADAM fans... especially the 2nd edition with numerous Arcade Cabinet boxes pictured.
Tempest
I think he's talking about all those cartridge to tape/disk libraries that are on the site. There are a ton of them. I'd never heard of Star Trek Super Game before. Neat! I wonder how far along that one got?

Tempest
Is that title screen in the cartridge version? I've never played the Colecovision version.
phattyboombatty
Is that title screen in the cartridge version? I've never played the Colecovision version. No it isn't. Cart version just has the standard ColecoVision BIOS intro, then a controller selection screen (attached), then a skill-level select screen. Then it takes you into the game. NIAD
No. The cartridge version just used the standard CV Bios title screen.
Tron Unit
An Adam compatible Super Star Trek version of this with Spock voice like the arcade version would kick ass! Edited March 3, 2015 by Tron Unit

I got a chuckle out of the Tarzan screen shot with the 4 hunters as I don't recall ever seeing more than one hunter. The 2600 Tarzan box mockup and screen were new to me as well. I'd never heard of Star Trek Super Game before. Neat! I wonder how far along that one got? Yep. That's what I was referring to. As I browsed the list my first impression was that it was a bunch of cart dump utilities and disc collections of cart games. I used to see pirate discs of C64 games and utilties all the time, some even with official looking branding, and the stuff on the linked page looked similar. I didn't pay close enough attention and I didn't know what I was talking about, so my apologies. No harm was meant. As for Super Star Trek, I can't think of much they could have added. Did any CV or Adam game use voice? I suppose they could have added in the asteroid and comet levels from the 2600 and 5200 versions. The description doesn't make any mention of Romulans or new enemies.

They would probably have added rotation on the Klingon vessels displayed at the bottom of the screen. In the standard cart version, the Klingon ships are always displayed facing you at an angle, even when they are moving away from the Enterprise (and it does look rather silly). And if I remember correctly, only one ship could be displayed on the viewscreen at a time, even if more than one ship (or starbase) was in visual range. That's the kind of thing they could have fixed somehow in the Super Game version, given the 24K of available RAM in the ADAM.

The rotation sprites would have kicked the Coleco STSOS version into being the BEST port of the era. The port is the best (IMHO) Gameplay wise, but added voice and rotations.... One can only dream.

NIAD
It hard to know exactly what Coleco programmer's would have come up with as far as a Super Game version of Star Trek, but I'm sure there would have been a number of new twists and levels added and not just a Hall of Fame. Look to other Super Games like Zaxxon and SubRoc to see that Coleco's programmers were given a lot of creative freedom and really took advantage of the added capabilities of the Adam. @phatty... I haven't gotten around to scanning the "2nd revision" yet. Anyone want to start a Kickstarter to inspire me.

Jess Ragan
Silly Kirk. It's easy to defeat Nomad... just jostle the cartridge port ever so slightly and it turns right off. Or keep it turned on for forty minutes. Or cough on it.
