O.T..... I want my freakin' domain back

Anyone know how to buy back a domain you lost out of being complacent?

My domain came up for re-registry a couple years ago and I wasn't "in the loop." Went public and some Japanese male-enhancement company bought it... Don't know why.

Anyway, now it's got a 404 Forbidden HTTP error and I can't even buy Japanese penile enhancers from my own website.

I tried to re-register, but it pops up as "unavailable."

Is it lost forever, or do you guys know some way I can try and get my domain back? GoDaddy wants you to pay them some amount of money to try and contact the owners... If they "cant be reached," I go on a back-order for the domain... like anyone else would want Opry99er.com.

Guess that's Japanese for "Go big or Go home!"

Alright... did some digging.

My domain is owned by a Japanese man by the name of Hiromi Ue****, postal code 4140044.

His eMail address is listed in the registry, but it doesn't look right to me... It's "infofamily****@yahoo.co.jp"

(I redacted the full name and eMail address for whatever reason)

I have his physical address and a fax number.

How would you guys go about contacting this guy to get my domain back?

It's scheduled to come up for re-registry on 8/7/15...

Should I wait it out and try to buy it, or should I contact the guy?

I have his eMail, physical address, telephone number, everything... I even know that it's 4:28PM in Japan right now.

Just don't know if I should try to contact him, or whether I should let it ride until re-registry day.... If I wait, I can possibly pick it up for free (plus price of registration)

If I contact him, he might be an ass or it might even remind him to re-register (in case he forgot)... I can't spend a bunch of dough on anything right now, but damnit, I WANT MY FREAKIN DOMAIN BACK!!!!! LOL!!!!! :)

It's my name... It is my YouTube channel, it is on all the docs that have been distributed with my games "Lemonade Stand" at the Faire, Honeycomb Rapture from a limited run (special order) from my old website... It has been my OL moniker for 7 years.

My videos all reference my website. I thought I had bought a 5 year registration on the site but it was only a 2 year.

I was on the road for a couple years... Moving here and there. One day I woke up, tried to log in to the site and BOOM...

Viagra a la RisingSun.

That sucks dude. I assume there is a way to renew a domain name before it expires. Hope you get it back someday. It may not be worth it to contact your Japanese guy. Firstly there may be a language barrier. Secondly if he finds out somebody wants the domain, he may try to extort you for it or hold it for ransom. If he thinks the domain is worthless and isn't using it, he may let it lapse in a few months.

PS - It lives on curtesy of archive.net

A domain normally goes on, year for year, renewal without any action needed. (but YES, watch the date, of course)

As I don´t know the domain-name, nor what the japanese man is doing exactly,

I can not say more. Go and search his eMail in the web, show whats his business, what he is doing.

Check his registrar, check his admin-c, goto RIPE, search for his other domains...

He has the domain, why should he renounce on 2015-08-07 ? He needs it too. He wants it too! As he has it.

Except he is a domain-napper, dealer, hoster, or assisting one of them....

In this case, there will be no difference when you ask him. Then he waits for your offer.

My bet is:

nothing will happen if nothing happens...and there is no difference in price if you contact him today or if you contact him on 2015-08-08.

The only disadvantage - for asking today - could be, that he remembers his "forgotten", not-autorenewal-domain, and tells you:

"Oh, good that ya remembered me, I had folgotten, and I hava no automatically renewals on thad domaina,

so I would hava loosen it on 2015-08-17 if ya had not remembered me...."

But do you believe in that ? And, who forgets his domain ?

Only my opinion. I think, getting a occupied domain maybe is hard, psychological stuff. Or you ask and just pay the price, of course :)

PS: There was a service, mean it was www.snapnames.com, for observation

/some EDITs/ for illiterate :)

Take him to Internet Court.

You can, and most likely will WIN the domain back, but it would be costly.

Large corps like Microsoft and Sony do it all the them, and use the power to take over domains they want for new products or brand names, or for past trademarks they have suddenly renewed.

But the best course of action is to wait and see if the person renews it, and not to take any interest in it, even domain registers are known to keep cookie tracking of 'searching for domain names' and then backsell them to their own team of cybersquatters if they see a name that people want, but are not registering or using their costly back-order and domain for sale broker services which rarely ever work, just makes it even more special for them to hold onto until you cave into their high-robbery price for it.

You could file a WIPO action against the squatter to see how far it gets. There are a lot of the asshats out there that wait for domains to expire and then grab them and hold them for years on end. It is worth it to them because some schmucks will pay them hundreds if not thousands of dollars to get their domain back.

I had a customer have to do this recently and I gave him some information on how to go about this. I will dig it up and post it later today.

Thanks for the help fellas.

Id be willing to pay for the return of my domain, but I never have much disposable income.. 3 kids...you know. :)

The cost for re-registry cannot be that high... I think I paid 15 bucks a year or something like that. Just reimbursing the fellow for his registration over the past two to three years, add another two to three years for the registration of "RisingSun-RisingWang.com"... I could afford a hundred bucks... But thats about all I could afford.

Id thought about that... But it is just not the same. My primary concern is compatibility with all the stuff out there currently that has that address on it... Just want continuity.

Not that it was some big global conglomerate, but it was mine, and I want it back. :)

with your youtoube account you can show that it was your trademark before he took it.. file a claim requesting it be returned, worst thing that can happen is it won't be.

then get opry99er.net.. I've been trying to get thekeep.com forever and some doofus has had it locked up for a nonexisting book tie in .. forever..

I am a reseller for eNom (formerly BulkRegister.) When I spoke with them about my customers' issue, here is what I sent him:

I got a call back from eNom and was directed here. Because this is

essentially a legal process, there's not a lot of advice they could give me

and they recommended getting in touch with an intellectual property lawyer.

I don't know of any off the top of my head, but I will ask some of my

contacts.

Thanks fellas. I am mulling this over in my head. I'll give it until the re-registry date and then (if I cannot get it back on the open market) I will decide whether to contact the fellow or file a complaint. He isn't even using it... Its an HTTP error 404 with no data onscreen.

Frustrating.
