Homebrew Multicart or RPG?

I would be interested in both.

I mentioned a multi game cart as there was some buzz for an Atari 2600 "Action 52". I actually got in contact with the owner and was politely rejected. Still, I could call it "Augie 40" and be in the clear :) 40 separate games would actually be harder to pull off then one big RPG.

Whichever way you decide to go I'm sure it will kick ass!

Are the 40 games new games, or old games like Asteroids?

In rereading I see it's Homebrew Multicart. Same question though - are they new homebrews made just for this multicart, or existing ones repackaged?

I would make all new games from scratch. 40 of them to celebrate my upcoming 40th birthday.. and to avoid legal troubles from the Action 52 people :)

40 games from scratch!?! I don't see that happening. If by some miracle you managed to come up with 40 games, I don't see how they could be very polished.

As such, I'd recommend the RPG. A single game with lots of places to explore and a bunch of graphic detail would be quite doable.

Well, to be fair I've built up different engines for side-scrolling, top down scrolling, 4-way scrolling and procedural maze generation. I've already got code for displaying score using playfield blocks, password entry and other handy routines over the years.

It seems everyone is leaning towards the RPG route. It was my original plan anyway :)

OK, you got all those routines, but creating games is not Lego.

Each good game requires something unique, it must be playable and fun. Also it has to be play tested, for bugs, difficulty ramp up, replay value etc. There is a reason why developers usually only release one or two top quality games per year.

Agreed. Never said it would be easier than a single RPG. :) Was just feeling out how people thought about a multi game cart since people were excited about "Action 52" earlier.

UPDATE: Holy smack! I just realised that one of my most recent games "Conjoined" took just over a year. Yeah.

All the credit goes to CPUWIZ. He's the first one to produce these boards. Kind of weird timing as most of my projects are going Atari Jaguar and Sega Genesis. All of a sudden these boards become a reality :)

CPUWIZ pins it on you ;)

Hefty doses of modesty but you both made some magic happen!

It's the chicken -> egg scenario. CPUWIZ needed someone that would actually use the boards otherwise he'd be sitting on a pile of unused inventory. I needed someone to commit to making boards big enough for the game before I would actually consider going farther. Somehow it all worked out :P

And I'm sure there are lots of people who are glad it did!

I can't wait to see what you put together to fill these sweet mothers with. :)
