Fyrebird
The 99/4a was my first computer in late 81 or early 82, had a subscription to 99er magazine and typed in all the programs I could find in there, and played Tunnels of Doom and Parsec and others. Put it away in 84 when family got first PC (8088) and never looked back.... Till about a year ago. Started playing around with Classic99 and WIn99/4a, both great programs by the way. But just wasn't the same, so finally after browsing on ebay the last few weeks I found one and it was delivered today. So many memories coming back. reading a lot on here about how to connect to PC, but mostly older post and doesn't seem to be a lot these days, guess I waited too long huh? Oh well, just wanted to share my excitement. Thanks for reading.
Opry99er
Thanks for your story!!! More TIs are linked to PCs today than ever before! HDX interfaces, serial interfaces, nano-PEB, CF7... The world is your oyster. Welcome back friend... If you need anything at all, just let us know. BTW, what is your current setup?
Fyrebird
thank you for your reply, I'll look into those, some only seem available once in awhile. I just picked up a small set with some games connected to my TV with an RCA cable with all the other systems (2600, NES, SNES, TG16, Genesis, 3D0, Saturn... it's getting quite crowded) Next I'll probably pick up the Speech Synthesizer and a few more games and Extended Basic. P.S. I watched some of your videos on youtube, good info there, thank you for sharing them.

It's just many of us are already using one of the available methods, so the topic does not come up much. There is more than one method to connect your TI to your PC, and costs vary with speed and ease of use. The ones that come to mind at the moment: a) The direct method of RS-232 to RS-232 / or the modern variant of RS-232 to USB. b) The Ethernet method of RS-232 to Lantronix UDS-10 to router and then via Telnet to PC. c) A variant of the first one using the "HDX" (my favorite) that uses a modified RS-232 card. There is even a way to transfer programs to your TI from your PC without a physical connection or an RS-232, using the Lotharek HxC. Enjoy the memories, and most of all enjoy this place. There is so much talent here, and so much going on that you'll soon realize THIS is the TI's 'GOLDEN AGE', not back in the 80's!

Defiantly enjoying the memories so far, something simple as the beep when you "Press Any Key to Begin" just makes me smile. I'm on my way now to post picture of my new (old) system. jdgabbard
Never had a 99 growing up. We had a C64 that was off limits. Finally sometime around 93-94 the old man got a IBM-Compatible machine at the house that we were allowed to mess with. Ended up buying a 99/4a a while back, and I recently purchased a second to begin duty as a loaner to a fellow coder.
Fyrebird
Got some more stuff for my TI, Got the much needed Speech Synthesizer, extended basic, the cassette cable, and of course Tunnels of Doom. Can load programs through my phone (took a couple of hours to set it up right, but it works now) only thing I can't figure out is how to get files from a dsk image to foad so I can change them to wav, I have a couple of TOD disks from ftp://ftp.whtech.com/ and used tiimagetool.jar on them, but I extracted the files from them and they don't work, I do have pennies and quest already, just want to try some of the other ones. Any help would be appreciated, thank you. Edited April 26, 2015 by Fyrebird
+mizapf
If I understood correctly you want to transfer files from the disk image to your real TI. You can send single files from TIImageTool to your TI if you have TELCO on the TI side. Connect a serial interface of your PC to your RS232 on the TI (assuming you already have a cable). Install RXTX on your PC: http://www.ninerpedia.org/index.php/Technical_details#Setting_up_RXTX_for_Java Run TIImageTool; you can "Send to Remote" when you right-click on a file. This option is grey if you do not have RXTX. On the TI, start TELCO and do a "Download file". TIImageTool will transfer the file by XModem to TELCO. Opry99er
I think he is bare console and CS1 only mzapf...
Fyrebird
Yeah, it's basic for now.
Dexter
Perhaps a connection from the cassette port to the PC soundcard would be a good option?
Fyrebird
I don't have a problem loading the wav files, just need to get a dsk to foad so I can convert to wav.
+mizapf
Hmm .... O - kay. Let's see ... You would need a program to read a file from disk and save it to cassette. In MESS you can save and load from WAV files. You would then have to save the WAV file to a cassette via the line-out of the PC. Ah, good, I found it. I knew I once wrote something like that: *** PROGRAMM ZUM KOPIEREN VON PROGRAMM- *** DATEIEN AUF KASSETTENREKORDER DEF COPY REF VMBW,STRREF,GPLLNK,DSRLNK DSKPAB DATA >0500,>1000,0,>2000,>000F TEXT 'DSK1. ' CS1PAB DATA >0600,>1000,0,>2000,>6003 CSTXT TEXT 'CS1' DISK EQU >0F80 CS1 EQU >0F9A COPY CLR R0 LI R1,1 LI R2,DSKPAB+9 BLWP @STRREF LI R0,DISK LI R1,DSKPAB LI R2,39 BLWP @VMBW LI R2,DISK+9 MOV R2,@>8356 BLWP @DSRLNK BYTE 0 SUBPR BYTE >08 LI R2,CSTXT MOV *R2+,@>834A MOVB *R2,@>834C LI R2,CS1+13 MOV R2,@>8356 LI R1,3 MOV R1,@>8354 CLR @>83D0 MOVB @SUBPR,@>836D CLR @>837C BLWP @GPLLNK DATA >003D RT END This is some ancient code from me (30 years ago!), so I have not tried it for a very long time. It seems as if it is intended to run from TI BASIC; you must call it with CALL LINK("COPY", filename_on_dsk1). [Edit: There is indeed a little bug in the program - it does not copy the numbers of bytes actually read from the first to the second PAB.] Edited April 26, 2015 by mizapf
Fyrebird
thank you, I'll try that out. Guess I could have asked too if anyone had those TOD files in FOAD or wav too. oops.
Fyrebird
Ok figured it out a bit easier, used TI99Dir and copied the files out, then used cs1er to convert to wav.
budz2355
That's awesome that with a tape player you can share files between a PC and the TI! ...guess I never even thought about it, fricken so much awesome!!
Fyrebird
I'm using my phone Galaxy S4, and a program called JetAudio Basic, turn all the way up and move the EQ all the way up, loads programs just like a tape player.
Opry99er
Ridiculous... LOL!!! I guess I need to get CS1er again. I had it several years ago.but could not get progs to load via audio cable from my PC. SOUNDED good to me, but the audio was corrupt from the TI's standpoint. Whatever... Sounds like some new sh** has transpired and I need to re-DL. Thanks for posting your successes. May help future console-only 99ers get some new games, and that is always good! That is awesome ...so for a dummy like me: Do you even have to plug it in to the TI or just crank up the volume?
Fyrebird
have to plug it in using the cassette cable, would be nice if you could just crank it up, though.
+arcadeshopper
HDX also works software only with a stock rs232 card ti and corcomp tested so far
