moodorf
I was watching the documentary Atari: Game Over and it got me thinking: are there any 2600/Atari games that actually use the phrase "Game Over"? My experience has been that most either stop abruptly, jump into demo mode, or have "Copyright 19__" come up on the screen when you lose all your lives. For that matter does anyone know which game used that phrase to begin with? I'm genuinely curious since it's one of the phrases most commonly associated with video games EVER.
+ZeroPage Homebrew
I'm not sure about which, if any, Atari 2600 games used the phrase "Game Over" but it has apparently been in use in pinball machines since the 1950's according to wikipedia. Torr
I think Gangster Alley does. or at least has a similar equivalent... I remember the bomber character laughing at me during a "game over" type sequence. Edited April 18, 2015 by Torr

shadow460
Dragonstomper doesn't. Instead it states very plainly, "You Are Dead." On a similar note, Survival Island says "Perished" when you lose, and Phaser Patrol will say either "Aliens Defeated" or "Ship Destroyed", depending on the game's outcome. Cankerwurm
If you play a full 9 innings of Realsports Baseball it says Game Over for a few seconds at the bottom of the screen.

PFL
So, Realsports Baseball is the earliest example so far? It's kind of strange to think that the console had been out for 4 or 5 years before the phrase was used in a console game... I wonder when the first example showed up in computer games...?
