copper20
When I eject the disc drive on my PS2 without any discs inside it, it makes a weird scratchy sound when I'm ejecting the drive. Is this normal for it? If not, how do I fix this?
Tempest
Put some lithium grease on the teeth on the bottom of the tray. That should fix it.
copper20
So does this mean I have to take the PS2 apart again, and if I don't bother fixing this, will it damage my games?
Tempest
No, just slide the tray out and look underneath. No it won't damage your games either. It's just a gear sticking.
copper20
Oh man that's simple then. Thanks. In either case as long as it isn't damaging my stuff it's insignificant.

True, but it's a simple fix so I'd recommend doing it. Over the long term it can't be good for the tray to keep grinding like that.
copper20
Ok I checked and I don't have lithium grease. What other types work? And can I use q-tips or does it have to be applied a different way? Also how much do I use from a measurement? Tempest
I just lightly coated it with my finger. You can get lithium grease from a hardware store for $3-$5. I'm not sure what else you could use, some other type I grease I suppose.

Also how much do I use from a measurement? Silicone based grease should be highly compatible with plastic parts too. I'm sure there is a good chance that petroleum based greases would work out okay, but there is always some chance it will attack the plastic too much depending on what's in there. Petroleum also can attack rubber, as in belts, if it were to make contact inadvertently.
