Was the Coco3 competing against the Amiga and Atari ST?

It's not too surprising. They were 16-color games until the switch to VGA. The two CoCo 3 releases (the other games on the same engine have since been ported) obviously also required the 512K RAM expansion and an RGB monitor, so that was an additional expense. That was certainly one of the things against being a new owner of a CoCo 3, rather than a previous CoCo 1/2 owner upgrading, i.e., the relative expense of putting together an optimized CoCo 3-centric system. By the time you bought the computer, multi-pak interface, disk drive, monitor, and the 512K expansion, you were in the range of a higher end, higher power system. I seem to recall us pricing it out in another thread, but when the Amiga 500 came out, you could actually put together a complete Amiga 500 system for just a few hundred bucks more than a similar CoCo 3 setup.

It's because I was thinking about it like a 12 year old kid ...
