budz2355
What is the difference between the TI, Myarc and Corcomp cards? Is one more desirable than the others? Better performance? More functions? All the same?
Omega-TI
While all will do basic communications, I believe the TI version is more desirable because: 1) It has the HDX modification available for it. (Most important reason) 2) I've never heard of anything being incompatible with it or it causing glitches with any software. (after all it is the standard) 3) They are more redally available. (but not necessarily cheaper) Because of the #1 answer, you will be able to keep your future upgrade options open without limitations, or added expense. budz2355
Is there any reason to run two rs232 cards? Printer and modem hooked up simultaneously?
TI-GAMER
i have a Splitter Cable for the RS232 card that works Great!
+Ksarul
It depends. You might want to have multiple printers attached, or several printers and a modem, or two parallel printers--one black and white and the other color, or pretty much any strange configuration that needs a serial port and more than one printer--or even an HDX, a modem, and a printer--all serial. It could be useful to directly tie two TI-99/4A machines together too. . .
TI-GAMER
Isnt there a hardware hack that is required on one of the cards if you have 2 in a single PEB at the same time?
+Ksarul
Yes--it changes the CRU address from >1300 to >1500, IIRC.
TI-GAMER
Can you put a TI RS232 and a Corcomp RS232 in the same system without the hack or is it still required?
Omega-TI
Yes--it changes the CRU address from >1300 to >1500, IIRC. Yeah, that is about the simplest hack on the planet too! Just un-solder one end of a resistor from the PCB and re-solder it down one hole. That's what I did when I installed my second RS-232. Piece of cake, even if you're a newbie to a soldering iron. TI-GAMER
Do you happen to know if the Corcomp RS232 CRU Address is also set to >1300 by default?
+Ksarul
CorComp is set to >1300, as is the Myarc. ISTR that the Myarc actually has a jumper to set it to >1500 though. . .assuming that's needed.
TI-GAMER
Bummer... I was hoping it was different than the TI. So either way it would also need the Mod done to it as well.

Does this mean you can change the CRU without any soldering?
+Ksarul
I'll have to look at the Myarc manual again, but I think the answer is yes.
+OLD CS1
Are all serial cards for the TI in DCE configuration?
+Ksarul
I know the TI, CorComp, Myarc, Atronic, and Wiesbaden ones are. I'm not sure about the ICS or Captain's Wheel cards. On Sidecars, I think most of them were too, but I'd have to test the ones in my collection to be sure (and even I don't have all of the possible vendors represented in my collection yet). +OLD CS1
Bah. I am going to have to make a special cable for DCE-to-DCE cross-over when the other DCE is expected to operate as DTE.
