Atlantis
I'm trying to figure out why this thread is still alive. The CDI, 3DO, Jaguar thread went on for 21 pages, so we could stretch this at least to 24. Back to half-topic: Also, if Sonic can be part of Smash bros then Skylar can! EDIT: actually it is on topic "Jaguar vs N64", what could beat all mascots against all in one game! (I should make a company out of all these good ideas!) lokeyguy
I think a better comparison and more compelling argument would be if you preferred games to be easy and engaging aka Mario, Metroid, Zelda or hard and more Arcade-like such as that for the Jaguar. Never played or owned a N64, but was mighty impressed by its graphics. For the Jag, I think it holds its own for its time. Admits to never having played a single game on the platform. Jaguar fume logic at its best.
JagCD
I don't want to get involved too much, but it comes to the tone "in the voice" next to what you wright as opinion and/or claim of fact. If you turn aggressive unnecessary fast, people might react. Stay as calm as possible, and people might not "gang" up against you, I reckon. Again, the bottom line is I talk with a ton of hyperbole and embellishment. It's just the way I talk. Whether the topic is about cars, girls, movies or video games. The problem lies when people take it in a literal fashion. I freely admit my advice/opinion is completely full of shit -- and it has always been that way. Many times it is an attempt to lighten up a dry topic/thread. I should probably put that in my signature as a disclaimer. JagCD
"because most of the classic gamers that started with Mario Bros, Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros mostly look at Mario 64 / Galaxy with contempt" This was not stated as an opinion... (again, this was the first thing I questioned you about). My reply was "Really? Most? Where are you getting this information?" Sure, but that was also a statement that I really never completed my thought and features type-o's: The actual statement that I intended to say was "Most of the classic gamers that I've met who started with Mario Bros, Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros mostly viewed Mario 64 / Galaxy with contemplation. Several of them were not really sure if the play mechanics of the later 3D versions were true to the core gameplay and pacing of the original 2D versions. Personally I always found Mario 64 to be paced much slower than its 8 and 16 bit counterparts. Galaxy was better, but I still much preferred playing later offerings like Super Mario Bros. Wii instead."
Andromeda Stardust
What I'm saying really isn't particularly controversial. There was a retrospective article in Game Informer on Electronic Arts and how they initially hacked the Sega Genesis Is this why all the EA carts have funky shapes? Were they not licensed? I'm trying to figure out why this thread is still alive. Because the troll-o-meter has not readlined yet. When it does, it will trip the lock switch. Give it another page or two. Thats weak, really really weak. No one Uses the phrase " treat it with contemplation " no one. Contempt is the exact word you would ude in that context and you know it. Andromeda Stardust
We wouldn't even have this debate if Jaguire wasn't advertised as faux 64 bits. Bit wars, derp. Bits are meaningless at 32 and beyond... My friend and I used to joke that Atari was 4-bit, Pong was 1-bit, and Game Cube was 128. Double the bits every generation or so. 32 got skipped somehow.
NeoGeoNinja
Is this why all the EA carts have funky shapes? Were they not licensed? My line of thought, has always been, that they used their own carts because they are compatible (shape wise) with ALL regions of console vs the cart slot. Also, EA have always been pretty arrogant and probably prefer having their own carts, simply to have them noticed. Maybe even perceived as looking superior by some. Similarly, EA decided to take matters into their own hands when they released PAL region titles for the Saturn, by devising their own Megadrive style double CD cases. They're huge, pointless and look horrendous - like US-style "longboxes" (which, for me, are visually tragic looking). Nebulon
I do recall the developer of Tetrisphere being surprised how difficult it was to get the N64 version to run as fast as the Jag version. Once they were done though, the N64 was using a number of effects that I don't think appeared in the Jag version (I've never seen the Jaguar version of the game to compare, so I can't say for sure). I think they were expecting the N64 to blow Jag out of the water. Instead the gap between the two systems wasn't as wide as they initially thought it would be, considering the time between the release of the two machines. Outside of that, I remember hearing some complaints about audio constraints due to limited cartridge space on the N64.

Largest N64 game: 512Mbit. Largest Jag cart game: 32Mbit (correct me if I'm wrong).

+madman
OK, that makes sense. Yeah, that's the downside to the cart format. It's debatable if it would've been smarter for Nintendo to choose CDs, but that's another thread for another forum.

Nope -- so I guess you're back to distortions (but I do love the arrogance of you dictating to me what I was thinking -- being a psychic must be among your talents). In reality, I was typing the comment while at work -- and got interrupted by actual work. Didn't get a chance to completely write the entire thought properly. Considering the disputed thought is totally consistent with everything I wrote about the N64 in this thread.... That Banjo and Rayman were my favorite platformers on the N64 -- it's full blown looney tunes that now you're arguing against it. JagCD
Is this why all the EA carts have funky shapes? Were they not licensed? That's exactly why. EA reversed engineered the Genesis in a clean room -- and was planning to produce their version of the Genesis cartridges with or without Sega's licensing. (Very similar to what Accolade did later on). EA did eventually get officially licensed, but it was apparently a tense negotiation according to the Game Informer article. Nope, not buying it, you said something stupid yet again, and yet again pretend you meant something else. It certainly seems to be your standard MO now. You don't intend to write contemplation, and end up with contempt. three things have to go wrong here. you have to press the T instead of L, ok fair enough. Then you completely miss the fact that the word you wrote is several characters shorter than the one you intended, Ok fair enough. But it seems like you were attentive enough to add a fullstop at the end. Sorry, we all spell things wrong and make a typo now and then, but its usually a misspelling, or hitting a wrong key. but you are expecting us to believe you meant a word that did not really make sense in the context that you wrote it, and accidently hit a wrong key and stopped a few letters short that just so happened to end up with a word that fits in exactly with the sentence you wrote. Oh and you also happened to get the full stop in. Are you kidding me. No wonder you have such a bad rep on here.

Really, I am betting I have not even posted in most of the threads you have even posted in. As for replying to you, I have done in a couple of threads, but thats only because You post such stupid crap that I, and many others, feel compelled to point out just how stupid some of the stuff you say is. We are not stalking you, its just to hard to ignore ignorant idiots who simply do not have a clue about anything. Nearly every thread I have seen you in ends up with you arguing with several other members, at some point you are going to realise its actually you thats the problem, not every one else. high voltage
Question should be Is the N64 more powerful than the Magnavox Odyssey? I'd say no, the Odyssey doesn't have foggy graphics.
