CrazyBoss
Hi. There is a Japanese MSX version called Challenge Derby Maybe the ColecoVision version was ment to be a port of this one ?
NIAD
There was a rather lengthy discussion in the thread started by Else when he announced that he was working on a horse racing game. He progessed along very nicely as can be seen by all the demos he freely shared, but unfortunately left the scene before finishing it as well as the ADAMnet SD Drive. There were lots of great suggestions concerning gameplay as well as examples provided of the Intellivision and MSX games that were made. Would be nice to see this vaporware title eventually made and released.
Tempest
The MSX debuted in 1983, while the Colecovision was released in 1982. I think Horse Racing was in the first catalog if I'm not mistaken, so there's no way it was a port of anything on the MSX. What I want to know is if Cabbage Patch Kids is a port of Athletic Land or vice versa? I think the progression went like this: Athletic Land (MSX) > CPK (Colecovision) > CPK (MSX) but I can't be sure.
slab0meat
Like some others, I'd LOVE to see that horse racing game actually happen. I'd be very happy.
sega_SHARK
So the MSX game is pretty much a betting simulator? I have mixed feelings about that. I guess a horse racing game would either be a button masher or a number cruncher though. The betting simulator seems pretty cool, but not much replay value. edit* Ok, I looked at the '82 catalog and Horse Racing is listed as a CASINO GAME CARTRIDGE, which means it would be a betting simulator. CrazyBoss
It seems to be a sg-1000 game not msx

Tempest
Personally I think it looks too busy. Too much extra fluff on the screen. Not to mention Anna Lee looks kind of ugly.
ValkerieSilk
You are correct. Though the MSX version of CPK is quite an improvement. This new gal of yours gets 2 thumbs up my friend ... It's nice to have you back, sincerely...
Tron Unit
If the original Coleco game was to be a betting game then it would have been extremely boring. I'd like to see some skill with earning cash to upgrade your thoroughbred and jockey training course. Of course it would be a button-masher but better breeds would be faster and have more of an edge. NIAD
If a CV Horse Racing game were to be made using the premise of including button-mashing like Decathlon and T&F, it could also offer the control option of left and right on the joystick and the T&F Controller could be used as well as the CollectorVision Arcade Quality Controller. I don't think we need another game to destroy our aging and/or rare CV controllers. I would prefer that the "button mashing" be moderate, by linking it to the jockey's whip. This introduces a notion of strategy into the game, because the frequency of whipping versus the horse's breed, mood and overall energy will determine its performance on the track, with an element of randomness included. The player would therefore need to learn how to modulate his whipping to get the best out of his horse, but even with the best jockey monitoring, the horse may still loose the race if other horses are simply in better shape, which would add some realism to the game.
