Crimping corners...

Recommended Posts

I appreciate this question it is not strictly Atari-related, but it is Atari-installation-related. I have been trying to find a good pair of crimping pliers for the DuPont pins/sockets necessary for most of the VBXE/SimpleStereo/U1MB installation.

I have gone through two pairs so far on Amazon and returned them both, because they were frankly total crap:

and

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00EEWRWX8

The first was especially terrible at absolutely every function it offered, not even stripping the correct thickness of wire indicated. Just terrible. Although the handles were a nice bright colour. The seconds was... okay, but for that much money I wanted something that properly folded and turned the various flanges to grip the wire. Instead I found it just crushed the whole 'receptacle' area flat. After being so deformed the sockets would not fit the plugs. I could and did genuinely do better with a fine pair of needle-nosed pliers.

So... I wonder if any of the more electronically minded of you chaps could suggest an improvement over either of these?

Many thanks guys!!! I've had a scan through the UK ebay but not had any luck turning up either of those models. I did find another one again though on amazon:

Do you think that might get the job done? Its a bit on the pricey side really and will take at least the usual 3-weeks to get here from Japan. Still, it would be nice to finally get hold of a decent one!!!

I don't know what DuPont pins are (Molex or Berg pins?) but here are my main go-to tools for stripping and crimping:

http://www.amazon.com/Mountain-MTNC48-Change-Ratcheting-Crimper/dp/B00C7JZEA8

For the set above, I can just buy whatever jaws I need in the future.
