Malagai for sale, really not a repro?

I saw this today I was thinking that it is in almost too good to be true condition. The case looks new. The sticker looks new.

But before you start sending death threats, I do not know the seller. They state it is not a repro. The case and pins never have been used (inserted).

Just an observation.

I'm thinking that people are knocking carts off more than ever, trying to cash in.

The sticker looks too modern...

I would trust his judgement

I'm not criticizing the seller. Most often they just move items they come across. Some sells are just unintentional.

As the owner of one of the largest Atari 8-bit cartridge collections in the world, I've seen my share of fantastic knock-off's.

This one caught my eye when I saw the cartridge housing. Then the label looked suspicious. I'd love to crack it open to see the PCB and chip(s).

But if I'm wrong, then so be it. Maybe someday we'll find out.

I'm not talking about the seller, I am talking about CPUWIZ.

Ok, you know this because you know the seller?

Oh, I am sorry, I didn't see this earlier. I know this, because I am claiming that I've made the best fake Malagai and there is things about this that are hard to do, notice the discoloration and patterned wrinkles? This is a common sickness for Malagai carts, much like the crap Activision did, when they chose the glue they did.

Also, I can kind of tell, because I have a CIB copy of Malagai and it is in very similar condition. :)

No idea who the seller is, I go by the images, unless someone is really talented at doctoring cartridge images, this cart looks legit.

Ooohhhh, the plot thickens :)

That one is clearly marked as a reproduction though and obviously looks like one. I still agree the Malagai looks legit to me.

The thing w/Atari is if you open them you pretty much damage the label. At least nes and snes you can check w/out causing damage.

True!

I'm still amazed more rental places didn't get game boards swapped out with common super mario bros boards/etc back in the heyday. Me and my buddies always "talked" about how easy we could do it back then but since we were decent people we never actually did it.

Back then, only the early NES boards could have been swapped. The gamebit tool were hard to find before eBay came around many years later.

Beside most rental store would have a record of who rented what. If they got numerous mixed up games, they would check the history and find the one person who regularly rented it last before it was reported mixed up. So it wouldn't be easy to switch more than a couple games without getting busted.

ok I trust your opinion.

With technology, I've seen some pretty convincing knock-offs. I usually look at the housing in addition, if loose they typically are used.

And the worst thing, is to destroy the label to find out what is inside. But I've done that to show they are copies. It sucks but that's a lot of money. :(

It isn't just tech, it is attention to detail. We have made some remarkable fakes, you should see the River Patrol box that was burned as a hoax, because it did not meet my wifes quality standards. ;)
