flashjazzcat
Great pics - was checking them out on Facebook earlier. Even the BACK of the 1400XL is gorgeous.
Justin Payne
OMG! Who's collection is this? Droool!
Albert
Thanks for the photos, they look great (and are nice and high-resolution)! It's crazy how much 8-bit hardware Atari prototyped that never saw the light of day.
Retro Rogue
That's all Sean and John's stuff, i.e. what they display at CGE, E3 and in the soon to be built museum.
+DrVenkman
Beautiful stuff and a few things I'd never even heard of, such as the standalone CP/M module and the 1055 drive. Thanks for sharing pics!
Tillek
1450XLDs on a clearance table for $100. I'm physically ill right now.
SS
That 1450XLD just brings tears to my eyes. I was so covetous of it when I first saw it pictured in the Atari Computer catalog that came with my 800XL and I still am. It is a thing of beauty.
Bryan
It would have been cool if Atari had made an over-the-computer expansion box like Apple's dual disk but slimmer to give an XLD look.
+MacRorie
Thanks! It was great to see it all. There was some 2600/5200/7800 stuff as well. I will put them up in their respective forums or here if that's okay.

Well, I can slap two 1050's or Indus GTs on top of a 1200xl (and put something in the back to hold the weight).... But a 1450XLD.......... The hours I spent just reading the specs and looking at the picture. Guys.... we have to make repros.... We have to!
Grevle
Nice !. They even got a CRT Tv. I must admit, i'm some sort of CRT junkie when it comes to Displays for Atari 8-Bit. .
Mclaneinc
I remember when we got the in house prep for the next catalogue at Maplin and there was the 1450XLD, I wanted that machine so badly (in a gaming play way...of course) and being tech Atari sales I was sure to get my hands on one......Or so I thought... It never happened... Very sadly... But lovely photo's OP although my neck hurts now from the vertical ones Just kidding, nice detailed pics, thank you very much... Caterpiggle
I saw all goodies of all prototypes at CGE Las Vages in 2009 or 2008. The best of all photo's that I got from my camera ! SWEET ! Yes, I was bring my few tears when I saw the first time of the real physically Atari 1450XLD. I was cheated to touch to some keys pressing down until the security guy stopped me ! Who is John & Sean ? Known their last name ? Yeah ! $100 for Atari 1450XLD that I would afford to buy the BEST 8 bits ever of Atari ! I wish I fly back to the future and buy a prototypes of Atari 1450XLD ! & all the possible leaking prototypes devices ! 65XEP is the best of all expect replace from monochrome to color 5 inches CRT that fit into 65XEP. To exactly match up to Commodore SX-64 portable that has color 5 inches CRT ! What is E3 ? Where is that location at ? San Francisco ? +Ripdubski
Nice. I had never seen or heard of the Tab Mouse or 1055. Cool!
Justin Payne
You know, seeing the "next generation" statement the card says about the 1400, I can't help thinking that's an overstatement. Next gen should probably reserved for cpu, sound, and video advances. The 1400 was more of a model upgrade. Yes, it did have the FREDDY which did upgrade the graphics but I think it barely touches next gen. If they would have released a Apple IIGS equivalent, I think that could be considered next gen. Still, a very nice looking machine and when I heard about both systems, as a kid, I was very excited. Of course, as an adult I have to ruin the complete excitement with practicality. Still, how awesome would have it been if Atari made a true next gen system that was also backward compatable.
Tillek
Well, I think they meant "next generation" of the 8-bit line, kind of how the XE was the "next generation" instead.
Justin Payne
I'm using the consoles as a measuring stick. For example, the Xbox 360 is considered a 7th gen console and the 360 came in various models or retail configuration. The motherboard got reconfigured (from one that catches fire to one that is fire free ) as well as hard drive capacity (or lack there of) and wifi. Very similar to the Atari 8-bit line. Seems like the ST should be next gen. It might get fuzzy when we talk the TT and Falcon.
JD6502
Probably the wrong place for this, but anyone know what this is?
+Stephen
Probably the wrong place for this, but anyone know what this is? Yes - it's an Atari Video Music. Very raye, highly collectible. It plays back graphics "2600 style" in reaction to a stereo music signal it is fed. I believe it was released in 1976. The model number is CX-240. I have one, mint condition in original box with styrofoam inserts and desicant tab. It's a great piece.
