Looking for my first piece... Probably won't be one of these, as I am at least a month out from my purchase, but getting a feel for value is very important... :)

NOTE: I'm using Florida prices on the Cabs, I have no idea how the arcade scene is in Colorado. Supply and demand drives prices and we're lucky to have a lot of supply in Florida.

The POW is in a cut corner dynamo that appears to have been a Neo Geo at some point? Looks a bit sketchy on the control panel like somebody drilled the extra hole for the Neo Geo but in a weird way. Samurai Shodown is a Neo Geo cartridge so if it comes with both the POW board and the Neo Geo board thats $150 or so in value right there. Try to get it for $250 and make sure the Neo Geo board works. Probably the best value in the bunch.

Tekken Tag looks like its in a midway cabinet, looks like a good conversion best I can tell. Those are good cabinets. Tekken Tag PCB is worth about $50 or $60 sadly and the cabinet at $450 is high. If they'll take $300 or $350 you are closer to a good deal. Would be a good starter cabinet.

The X-Men vs. Street Fighter appears to have been a Battletoads? Pity its no longer as that's a rare and valuable game. Converstion looks a bit wonky with an odd button layout. Board is worth $125-$150 as it would be a CPS2 A/B combo. Cabinet.. eh.. unless you can find a battletoads fanatic thats a rough sell at $350. Once again that seems high.. you probably also want to stay closer to $300 on that.

Big thing on all of these games is the monitors. They don't make CRTs anymore and now we're hearing the flyback factories are also shutting down which means repairs can be costly depending on whats wrong. If the monitor looks really bad be careful unless you know a good monitor guy.

I really do need to update my info... I am in Cookeville TN now, not Colorado. :)

This is a small town, and we are not really close to any big city. Sales like these are fairly infrequent, as there isnt a sufficient population to support a healthy arcade and pinball trading base. :)

That's a very fair price.

We see a lot of Outruns up for sale around here, $250-$350 is probably average on price. If this has been HUO (Home use only) for 15 years and is in really good shape then $325 isn't off at all.. its also Turbo Outrun which is nice.

I'd still offer $275 and maybe meet at $300 but even $325 isn't bad.

Downside here is you aren't running any other games in here versus say a Jamma cabinet where you can easily swap boards.

Thanks for the info, fellas. It is a nice looking machine, thats for sure.

Not in a position to buy right now, unfortunately. Buying a house...

But it has been listed for a month. Perhaps itll still be there when it is time.

Out of curiosity, I have read that sometimes the wheel tension gets bad... Steering gears or something go out.

If I am remembering the correct game, this one has real tight steering tension on the wheel that snaps back to center when released and it vibrates on a wreck. (Both good things)

Can anyone speak to this?

On the driving games the gears that the steering wheels use wear out, the teeth break off the gears etc.

For example a few years ago I picked up an Outrun and the gears were just shot. The wheel wouldn't auto-center correctly at all and had a hard time going certain directions. Luckily somebody had just made a repro kit and that fixed it. The kit was $60 at the time but it was a limited run.

If you go to look at an older driving game its not a bad idea to check the wheel gears. If they are bad you then run into the problem of.. can I find a replacement and how much would it cost? Sometimes finding the parts may be tougher than you'd think depending on the game.

Thanks for the info.

When I have the time and $$, I certainly want to make sure I cover all my bases... I am brand new to this sub-hobby and don't want to get into a mess when I buy my first game. :)

The first game I ever bought (years and years ago) was the same cabinet as that Neo Geo in your first post. Something like that isn't a bad move for a first game as they are generally reliable and monitor aside easy to maintain and fix. It also gives you a bunch of options because its Jamma and you can buy other boards and swap stuff in and out easily.

Good luck though, its a slippery slope!

That's pretty much part for the course. If someone posts a killer deal on Craig's List it will be gone in minutes.

I've spent a lot of time chasing deals on Craig's List just to have the sellers flake out or sell to someone else after we agreed on a price and I was driving there to pick it up. So i usually handle Craig's List with a grain of salt.

What is a fair price for an unrestored, complete/functional Asteroids stand up cabinet? Fella has one for sale right now for $500, but it is a bit rough (rubbed corners, scratched side art, etc).

It is out of my price range anyway, but if another pops up at a more convenient time, I was wondering what I should expect to see on price... This is one of my favorite games.

Totally concur... I dream of one day owning a vector (?) Asteroids cab. I THINK Asteroids Deluxe is when they upgraded to normal monitors?

I'm not sure what they go for, but based on the popularity of these machines, I would think $500 isn't a deal by any means... but isn't horrible if the thing is working perfectly.

The biggest problem for all arcade machines, is damage to the actual wood cabinet. Most of the electronics can easily be purchased / found since sometimes cabs get re-used for other stuff... but if the cabinet is water-logged and is coming apart, then it often doesn't even make it worth saving.
