Video_Invader Posted July 12, 2015 Share Posted July 12, 2015 Did some cleaning and still nothing. Disc spins, laser moves, and after a few seconds, ejects tray. Running it without a disc, you can see the movement and a faint red beam but thats it. Not sure if i should look for a replacement laser or if there is some other problem here. I'm sure there's vids on YouBoob outlining just what to do… here's one: i already watched that video earlier......what i could of it. My current internet doesnt stream video very well. OldSchoolRetroGamer Posted July 13, 2015 Share Posted July 13, 2015 Yeah I love the LOOK of the FZ-1 but that said I have had 2 crap out on me, switched to the flip top lid FZ-10 model and has been solid as a rock with originals and backups plus has the memory management app built right in. The FZ-1 uses the exact same drive assembly as certain PC CD-ROM drives from the period, so you can just find one of those and swap out the laser. Im surprised there isn't more on this. I know i'm not the only one thats had this problem before. I'm sure it would be good to get this running again. Video_Invader Posted July 23, 2015 Author Share Posted July 23, 2015 Went in yesterday and changed out the laser and tested, still nothing. Eye moves back and forth as if seeking but I noticed the disc doesn't turn. You can spin it but it wont turn on its own. Checked connections and decided to switch out the motor. Still nothing. CatPix Posted July 27, 2015 Share Posted July 27, 2015 There has to be somewhere a switch that tell the console that the lid is closed or not. Does the lense move when you boot up the console or only when you close the lid? It it move when the console boot, I guess it's a check-up. If it move only when the lid is closed, then the said swich works. Another thing would be the IR diode - the laser itself doesn't work when the lense move up and down, but only when the IR diode detect a disc in and the motor spin. I had this issue with a Laserdic player - the lense was fine but the IR diode busted; the lense would move up and down, but the motor won't turn. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

What about the switch next to the motor that the eye comes in contact with when it comes all the way back? Does that have anything to do with it? At this point, i've changed everything in this unit but i realized that the disc used to spin before i made all these changes so i'm gonna put the original lens back in and see what happens. Video_Invader Posted August 30, 2015 Author Share Posted August 30, 2015 It was spinning when i first got it but would eject the disc. Changed with parts from that pc drive i picked up. Wouldn't spin anymore. Put original back in and spinning again. I think changing everything else helped because it actually tries to read now but i think i'm gonna need an original disc and not a cdr.. There is quite a lot of save memory on the 3DO, but some PC ports like Alone in the Dark take like 90% of the whole memory so you might need to erase data. Especially since memory expansion modules DO exist, but they are very rare and pricey today (more than the price for a console itself.)
