konnann
I've been working on a light sixer. I did the A/V mod, replaced the power switch and an LED power light mod. The problem is that I will switch it on, anywhere from about a minute to 5 min the display and audio go off. The LED stays on but nothing else. I'm not sure what else to try. I've used the power supply on another Atari and it works great, Any ideas would be appreciated, thank you!
Osgeld
Monitor the output of the 3 pin voltage regulator until it stops
konnann
I don't have a way to monitor it. I replaced the voltage regulator and it's still doing the same thing
Oge
Undo the modification one by one till the problem disappear in order to know what went wrong.
konnann
I took off the LED but I can't undo the AV mod. I switched AV boards and it worked great in another Atari.

konnann
Just got new power supplies and have had it running for about 30min now. Hopefully that was the problem
konnann
Not the problem. It's still turning off intermittently What else could I replace? Other than the whole thing, haha Edited August 4, 2015 by konnann
+Stephen Moss
You mentioned that you tried the AV board in another unit but could not undo the mod thus I must assume the board plugs in. Does the AV mod work in the unit in question while it is operational? If not that would suggest you have miss wired the mod, even if it does appear to work it may be worth double checking that you have wired the AV mod in correctly and for short circuits to components adjacent to the mods attachment points caused while soldering as either of those could be causing the problem. Other than that there is probably not much help anyone can give you with trying to track down the fault if you do not have access to a multi meter to read voltage, current and resistance. Consequently about the only thing you can do is spray the entire PCB with freezer spray and then see which components (other than the regulator heat) up very quickly compared to the others as that could give an indication of where any excess current flow and thus potential fault exists. Oge
Photos of the console? Of the motherboard, of course. If the fault is intermittent then it can be addressed by taking a loook at the soldering done near the area of the A/V modification.. konnann
The problem was the LEDs that I soldered in. I soldered them to the voltage regulator and it was drawing too much power. I moved the LEDs directly to the power switch, replaced the voltage regulator and it now stays on. I have a new problem that has arisen. Everything works with the case apart but when I screw it back together I can't move down. I've replaced the joystick port, tried multiple joysticks on multiple systems. I haven't troubleshooted it in depth but I assume when I screw the case down something is touching somewhere that shouldn't be
BigO
If the joystick works when you take the system apart again, my first suspect would be a bad solder joint.
konnann
I finally got the damn thing working!! I de-soldered the connections for the controller and re-soldered them and voila, it worked. Looks like there's more testing to be done just to be sure everything works. It's a Smurf/Kangaroo kinda night tonight!
