Value of an Atari 400?

Have a friend with an Atari 400 in its box. His parents purchased it for him BITD, and he no longer has any use for it.

 

What would be a fair price? I'm thinking of taking it off his hands, but don't have any clue as to what these are worth.

Is it just the 400 (and box) with 16k? $35 is fair but if it's in excellent condition $40 is also fair. When you go higher you start getting toward 800 prices. Od course, if you're using eBay or ShopGoodwill, you might see them for higher but not always.

I ditto that. Those are the prices I would expect for a working 400.

I would be very interested in such a machine - the only problem is whether you'll be able to ship it out to me - to New Zealand.

 

I prefer to not use a priority service - so as to keep the cost down. I'll guess you should be able to find an airfreight service, which will take around a month to arrive. Or else a shipping service - which may take 2-3 months to arrive.

 

I don't mind the wait - whatever it takes, as long as it is packaged securely (within a polystyrene packaging) - it should arrive alright.

 

You don't expect them to drop the package - but it can happen.

I would of course, pay for the packing - and the shipping cost - which I expect to be as much or more than the cost of the computer itself.

I do have a figure in mind, for my upper limit.
